Interested in dvds that people have that they feel were great movies, however did not get the exposure to dvd due to poor advertising, limited theaterical release, etc...

My dvd would have to be Interstate 60 writen and directed by Bob Gale (Back to the Future series). This movie is very unique with a good all around story filled with a great acting talent of Gary Oldman (Fifth Element, Bram Stokers Dracula)
James Marsden (X-Men and X-Men2)
Amy Smart (Rat Race, Butterfly Effect)
Chris Cooper (Seabiscuit, American Beauty)
Christopher Llyod (Back to the Future series)

Cameo apperances by Michael J. Fox, Kurt Russell, Amy Jo Johnson and Ann Margret.

This movie is well worth a blind buy or a rental.

Wow, good question... Too many for me to choose from, but I'll throw out a handful of titles: CAUGHT (Edward James Olmos); LIMBO, and MEN WITH GUNS (both directed by John Sayles); DANGEROUS LIVES OF ALTAR BOYS (Kieran Culkin); PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK (Al Pacino; R2 release); THE SALTON SEA (Val Kilmer); FINGERS (Harvey Keitel); THIEF (James Caan); HENRY FOOL (Hal Ashby).

I have a number of titles in my library I think are underrated as films, but I'm not sure they qualify here, as they're fairly well known titles. Among the most criminally underrated films of all time is THE BAD NEWS BEARS, for instance -- but many people know of it, and it's been much copied. I also think PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED is underappreciated. And so on.

Great thread idea, though I suspect this is going to end up costing me big bucks. I've already gone ahead and ordered INTERSTATE 60 as a result of clicking through here...

I have a pretty thorough Johnny Depp collection--save for Ed Wood (grumble, grumble)--and I've never felt he's gotten quite the respect and accolades he deserves. Until recently, anyway.

I agree with Chris Cooper. Adaptation, American Beauty, always wonderful. And Gary Oldman, as well. Benicio del Toro seems to keep getting forgotten and then rediscovered again.

I agree with celluloidwisdom about The Bad News Bears. The film is as great to watch today as an adult as it was when I was a kid.

The first one was, I feel, the most underrated film of the 1990s. Christopher Walken and Denis Leary make a wonderful presence on screen.

DC is the work of Fred Gwynne, Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy), Lou Diamond Phillips, and Corbin Bernsen for a nice bit of fun. Another underrated film.

PCU is just for kicks. Great David Spade and Jeremy Piven work here (jon Favreau too).

I really wanted to like this one....just didnt. maybe I'll give it another spin. I mainly bought it due to Walken. he was in another one of my favs in a sweet cameo....The Addiction. still waiting for it on dvd though.

Thursday, and no, it's not a prequel to Friday. Unfortunately there are two DVDs and both are OOP now. The widescreen version goes for a pretty penny on Ebay now.

My most recent "find"...

CHOPPER

Based on the "adventures" of real-life Australian criminal/murderer Mark "Chopper" Read, this is definitely not for the squeamish - it's fascinating, revolting, hysterically funny and not a movie you will quickly forget.

The DVD itself is a gem - deleted scenes, interview with Chopper prior to the filming of the movie, director's commentary, - and as a final treat, a commentary track by Chopper himself. (He's out of prison and living on a farm in Tasmania.) Not your ordinary commentary track ("Just because you're going to kill someone is no reason to be discourteous").

This has been released in the U.S.(pricey), but if you can accomade R2/PAL it's available at a very low price (under $10 delivered) here:

Okay, I must admit, there is a part of me that really liked Forces of Nature, so maybe it is because I liked Ben/Sandra more then Ben/JLo, so I walked into this turkey not liking it before it started, but wow; that;s an iteresting choice.

Regarding Suicide Kings, I agree. I only bought it because of Walken and the Price. Bakc when I bought it, it was about $8.00 three years ago, and it was a bargain (it was the cheapest DVD around). Favorite underrated gem of my collection!

I'm with you. But if you liked Drop Dead Gorgeous, check out Michael Ritchie's Smile (1975 - unfortunately not out on DVD - I have the letterboxed laserdisc). DDG is the second best movie about a beauty pageant.
