Mos Def tapped for role in Hitchhiker's Guide...

I guess this is caught between Music and Movie forums, but I frequent this one the most. So...

More Hitchhikers Climb Aboard

Hip hop star Mos Def has landed the role of Ford Prefect in the new Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy movie.

...

Filming starts at Estree Studios on April 19, with Garth Jennings of music video directors Hammer and Tongs at the helm.

Mos Def has previously appeared in Monster's Ball and the remake of The Italian Job, while Deschanel's credits include Elf and Almost Famous.

Sweet. I like how he's becoming a pretty decent actor but I also wish that he would get back into making some albums. I love his stuff.

Wasn't he an actor before he got into music? Regardless, I agree he needs to put something else out.

He used to be on the Cosby Mysteries show. His first album was great, but his and Talib Kweli's Blackstar album is a modern classic. If you guys haven't heard it, you should pick it up.

I'm pretty sure Mos Def and Talib Kweli met while studying acting at NYU.

Completely agree, Mos Def is my favorite emcee and Blackstar's album is a must own for anyone even slightly interested in hip hop. I really wish he would release some new music though. I remember seeing him with his band, Black Jack Johnson a few years ago, and they were supposed to be working on an album at the time. Hopefully his roles will gain him some more mainstream appeal when he releases an album.
