This was hilarious. The cracks about the theme song change had me dying, as well as the dogs on CSI. Good to see Sarah Silverman as well, although I hoped she'd have a bigger role.

I'm just glad Kim Bauer and that mewling brat didn't come around the corner.
I guess I must not be the only one who hates that awful new theme song.
That's the funniest set of swipes at CSI since Lorelai's mother's crack on Gilmore Girls.

The theme song stuff was great. I loved how after Silverman;s character made him promise if he gets his own show he'll never change the theme song it went right in to the old song
The CSI swipes were hilarious. The main charter on the show was a great spoof of Horatio from CSI:Miami. The scene in the rain where he's wearing his sunglasses was dead on. They also got the overacting down too.

"Is he somebody?"
"Pff. He's just a writer."
Classic episode! The theme song gags were great, although I don't want to see the show get too self-important.
The flaw I see with the murder plot is that ANY hardcore horror flick geek would be able to identify the screams as coming from the movie. Especially when news channels like CNN would've played the murder scene ad nauseum. I know I could identify a lot of movies just by a tiny sound bite.

"Mr. Monk, you're the greatest detective ever! You're the greatest detective in the whole UNIVERSE! You should have your own show! But promise me something? If you ever get your own show, don't EVER change the theme song, okay?"
My god, the writers for Monk have some serious balls to put a running gag about the theme song.
And to top it all off, the end credits had the original song. Brilliant!

Ditto on the theme song. I was laughing at first, thinking coincidence, but at the end when they talked about it again and then jumped into the original, I was excited. I think that was a nice gesture to the fans.
I'm getting used to 6th grade.

A pretty good one - I was actually expecting more of Silverman based on the preview.
Funny stuff about the theme - change it back for next season. Is there an actual petition? Where do I sign?
Also loved the continuity part - making fun of people who notice things like that too much.
As soon as they turn off the excersize video I knew the answer so this was one of the lighter mysteries.

This was probably one of the best Monk shows ever. The CSI gags were great.
"If we had 2 spectrometers, we could solve the case twice as fast!"

I have never watched an episode of CSI, but I figured that was what most of the gags were about. Even not having any real background with CSI, this was a very good episode.

I haven't watched it yet because I had to see more John Stossel on 20/20 last night (I can't get enough of the "Scourge of the Liberal Media"; just finished his great new book, too).
I'm going to watch Monk tonight and with these comments I'm even more looking forward to seeing it than usual. I love the perfect, original theme.

This was a fun episode, and I agree a lighter mystery as I figured it out straight away, but monk is not about the mystery, more about the fun.
It also had huge ratings for he season opener, well for basic cable anyway. 6M viewers on Friday, and then 5.8 for the reshow on Sunday

"Well, what do you think?"
"I'd make the gunshot louder."
A sly dig, perhaps, at stars who co-produce their own shows just so they can say they do.
Great episode. My favorite line was in the "Crime Lab SF" where he says "You shot the hooker...with a bullet made of your own frozen blood. Didn't you...Senator?"
