How wonderful this film is. Just bought the cd a few weeks ago with Nilsson doing the narration. WONDERFUL story. Can't wait to add this one to my collection.

Didn't Dustin Hoffman do the narration in the original version ? I remember seeing it on broadcast TV years ago (early 70's) when I was very young. It was also bookended with some brief live clips of Hoffman relating some personal stories from his childhood.

The TV version features a narration by Dustin Hoffman; the Video Tape and Laser Disc releases are narrated by Ringo Starr.
The version shown on The Disney Channel was narrated by Alan Thicke.

I had the record of this (with its accompanying storybook) when I was a kid and have the CD now, but I've never seen the movie. Anyone know how it compares? Any screen shots?
The songs rock . . .

Wish we could get the Hoffman version, but that's no knock on Ringo... my family were big fans of the record when it first came out, and we were front and center when the movie first aired. I'd just like to have the version I first saw. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be getting this.

Forgot about Alan Barzman. I'm sure I saw that one too. We watched it whenever it came on.
From the IMDb;
Dustin Hoffman .... Narrator/Father (first telecast)
Alan Barzman .... Narrator/Father (second telecast)
Alan Thicke .... Narrator/Father (third telecast)
Ringo Starr .... Narrator (home video release)
That's a trip that they had a different father for each telecast... no wonder the kid had issues.
And I agree Talemyn, the songs are great, and I was more than happy when the cd finally came out. Nice package. You, and any other Point fans, should check out Nilsson's 'adult' stuff if you haven't already... he was truly a great songwriter.
