"This re-release is just one of a number of classic live action Disney titles hitting store shelves in 2004. Look for Darby O'Gill and the Little People, the original Freaky Friday, Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow, and a 50th Anniversary Davy Crockett DVD containing both Davy Crockett and the River Pirates and Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier films."

Fresh - remember, the Vault Disney collection included, Swiss Family, Old Yeller, Parent Trap and Pollyanna. I personally feel the two Haley Mills features are on par with Darby O'Gill. Let's hope they do release it as a two disc. Something tells me though that Sean Connery has a big say in this being released.

Line. 20,000 Leagues was one of the last Vault Disney though it was not packaged as such.

This is something that I would wish would be included...I caught it on the Di$ney channel once when they used to show that kind of stuff. I would be really suprised if they did include it, but would it really kill them?

Ughh...horrible coverart. It's look like Sean Connery and Janet Munroe doing a ad for a toothpaste company.

Most of the speculation about this release is that it will be open matte. There is very little chance it will be OAR. As usual, we will have to wait until the day it is released to know for sure.

I don't see how there is a "very little chance of OAR." A bunch of old Disney live action that came out on July 6th were in their OAR. Never a Dull Moment, Hot Lead & Cold Feet, and The North Ave. Irregulars all came 16x9, but then again its hit or miss with Disney. I just can't believe no online stores have any details less than 3 weeks from release.

Per the Review of the film at the ultimatedisney.com
For once, Disney has made a point of giving out clear aspect ratio information. So as not to dissuade fans who cried foul at the sound of "fullscreen," Disney has included a one-sided color insert with a note stating "DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE is presented as it was originally shot, in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. When released to theaters in 1959, the studio recommended projecting the image at 1.75:1, to satisfy the public's growing appetite for widescreen movies. To give the illusion of this wider image, theaters often needed to crop films at that time, and some of the picture was not seen. The following presentation has not been cropped, and none of the original image has been lost."
The back of the package also specifies "Presented as Originally Filmed in 1959 - Fullscreen (1.33:1)." From this clarification and the rest of this month's releases, it certainly appears that the studio is making a wholehearted effort to release their catalogue titles to DVD in their original aspect ratio.
Has anyone actually bought this yet? I have not seen it anywhere in a B&M.
