Still more celebrity poker: Travel Channel Hollywood Home Games
Charlie’s gonna quack!
In spite of the fact that I was very critical of the last Celebrity Poker hack job, I’m looking forward to this one.
Honk!
WPT SPECIAL: Hollywood Home Games
Premieres Sunday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
The World Poker Tour has invited six of Hollywood's most outrageous poker-playing stars to fulfill the ultimate poker fantasy - a night at the World Poker Tour table.
Jack Black, Drew Carey, Steve Harris, Aisha Tyler, Fred Savage and Mimi Rogers have descended on a Hollywood soundstage to make their WPT dreams come true — and take a shot at winning a $25,000 buy-in to the WPT Championship. They're also playing for their favorite charities, with the winner's charity receiving $10,000.
To spice up the action, in each two-hour episode, the stars are given the option of using a "lifeline" to call upon two professional poker players for a bit of friendly advice.
The first in a series of four specials, the World Poker Tour's Hollywood Home Game pits star against star — and exposes these celebrities for who they really are... pure poker animals!
Can Jack Black keep a straight poker face? Will Drew Carey improvise a win? Is Fred Savage old enough to play?! Follow the action along with hosts Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patten and Shana Hiatt.
Check out a slide show of scenes from the game, then see who's in our upcoming Hollywood Home Games:

I saw this on my Tivo a while back, and I'm glad to see the level of stars that have been invited. This is the some good shit. Finally some decent lineups. Jack Black and Drew Carey should be great. The last night looks awesome w/ Affleck, Favreau and Busey.

Man, just like with the Bravo one, there's really cool people and really crappy people on every episode. Oh well, anything that'll give me more Norm McDonald is a reason to rejoice. I remember seeing the cast of Stan Hooper on Good Day Live and thinking if they just let Fred Willard and Norm do whatever they wanted for 30 minutes it would be infinitely more entertaining than their sitcom was. Hopefully this'll be closer to my wish than that mediocre sitcom.
Oh, cool, I just noticed these are 2 hours each.

I found these in my Tivo guide listed as episodes of the "World Poker Tour."
It's great that they're doing this, since none of those celebs could afford that buy-in to the championship on their own.

Great lineup. Early prediction is that Mimi Rogers, Ben Affleck and Norm McDonald win their rounds.
And my 5 star lock is....
Jennifer Tilly's episode will be a classic that will remembered and loved by generations to come.

I just hope there is more poker and less "hamming" for the cameras. Actor's need for attention can have some very un-funny results....all except Norm and Fred...they can do what they want.

I forgot about this. I'm sure it'll be repeated a lot, but what a bad timeslot to show new episodes in. Against Alias, Malcolm/Arrested Development, Surreal Life, and SITC/Curb.

I thought something looked familiar about her.
I'm not sure I'm liking the idea of the players doing the dealing. I understand it's a "home game," but nothing about it resembled a home game. Mimi was particulary not good at dealing.
And at least once Aisha did a "string raise," where she kept going back to her stack and grabbing chips.
I enjoyed the poker. Not much comedy, but better poker than the Bravo show.

I tried, I tried. Watched the show for about 30 seconds until Jack Black threw a deck of cards on the floor and Drew Carey started yelling at the hosts. I mucked it after that.

No no no! Goose baby!
You missed the real show-stopper: when it got heads-up they pulled a rope and money fell from the ceiling.
(I'm surprised that nobody's complained that they borrowed a coupla ideas from another show...)
I'm impressed you were able to turn it off. What'd you do, turn on Enterprise instead?
