Need recommendation for good soccer game for XBOX

I'm looking for a soccer game on the XBox. I'm not interested in team selections, taking a team to top of league, etc. Just want a good game of footy like arcade soccer games of the early 90s. Hopefully it would also have easy to learn controls and where I wouldn't have to use all my fingers and toes to play the game.

Also tell me what you consider the best soccer game overall (regardless of my criteria above)

Thanks in advance for you input.

FIFA 2004. That's pretty much your only choice. Good thing it's a good one though.

I thought I had seen an ad for Winning Eleven 7 coming out for the PS2 and one other system, though I can't remember if it was the Xbox or the GC. The Konami site doesn't mention it though. If it is coming, I'd wait for that as I think it's a better soccer game, even without all the licences.

I'm pretty sure Winning Eleven is for PS2, and GC. I haven't heard of any XBOX release. I have not played it, so I can't comment on its quality, but I have played Fifa ever since the SNES days, and it's a great soccer game.

there was a rumor that winning 11 would be coming out for the xbox... but that was squashed.

so, fifa is your only choice (and, it's not too shabby a choice except it doesn't have online)

You think that's bad... try finding a CRICKET game for the PS2/GameCube.

Here are the top 7 soccer games for X-Box:
(why top 7? that's all they have)

1. FIFA 2003 XBOX EA Sports - 84.3%
2. FIFA Soccer 2004 XBOX - 80.3%
3. Sega Soccer Slam XBOX - 78.7%
4. 2002 FIFA World Cup XBOX - 75.2%
5. ESPN MLS ExtraTime 2002 XBOX - 71.6%
6. RedCard 2003 XBOX - 69.7%
7. Ultimate Beach Soccer XBOX - 45.6%

As an alternative to FIFA, there's always the arcadey, power-up, cartoonish "Sega Soccer Slam". I've heard it's easy to pick up and play... fun, and includes a bunch of mini games if you have people you want to play against.

At least you have choices! I don't see them releasing EA Cricket 2004 in the US anytime soon...

Decker: It may be more likely that WE7 (?!?) would come out for GC, since the series has appeared on GC before. But that's just like, my opinion man.

Soccer Slam is great if you are looking for an NBA Jam/NFL Blitz kind of game. If you're looking for a real soccer game, it's not the way to go, unfortunately (although I love the game).

I read it was for XBOX. Anyway, I prefer FIFA 2003 to 2004. Also, MLS Extratime isn't too horrible and you can find it for cheap.

Whoa thats pretty cool. I had no idea that crickit video games even existed. I happened to see a real match when I was in Europe last spring, I didn't understand the rules but it was interesting to say the least.

Wow, I never even considered Cricket. I suppose there is less than no chance of getting this on the XBox in the USA, is there?

I highly doubt it...

However; the next Cricket World Cup is going to be held partially in the USA, I believe in Florida, using one of the Disney sports arenas. Perhaps this will generate enough interest to release the EA World Cup game in the US? That's not until 2007 however.

I find it strange that they have released 2 Rugby games in the US, but not one cricket game, although I can totally understand why they wouldn't bother. Just out of curiosity though, take a look at the latest Australian Video Game charts and see how well these games do.

If you're really interested in playing, and have a PC, EA sells a PC version of most of these titles. I have the last World Cup game, and while not the best cricket game I've played (Shane Warne/Brian Lara was the best on Sega Genesis) it's still a fun diversion.

...and no, I'm not from around here...

Im there with you on the cricket games. It's hard being one of the few Yanks that understand and love the game. Makes me want to find a all region PAL solution for consol gaming.

the Hansie Cronje fiasco has truly exposed the inherent crookedness of cricket. that was just one example of a highly respected player - how do you think the less prominent players can resist bribery?

it's worse than pete rose b/c baseball doesn't have pretensions of being a "gentleman's sport"

whoa... where did that come from?

Nothing will ever come close to the FIFA series. They just own the whole genre.

imo, Winning Eleven not only comes close but exceeds it in every way. As with many EA sports games, there are better alternatives but people don't buy them because it doesn't have the EA label.

Red Card Soccer 2003 is good - and it sounds more like what you're looking for than fifa is. I like fifa, but Red Card is alot of fun if you can find it... not too complex and not too arcade-like or silly (well, it is kinda silly in some parts). I got it for like 15 bux off half.com - try looking there.
