Surreal Life - 1/18 - Ep. 2

I can't express how great this show is. My thoughts tonight:

Vanilla Ice - remains annoying, but not as bad as Feldman was last year. He has some genuine moments where he looks like he's having a good time, and he could be a good guy. He had me rolling when they were working at the restaraunt and he wanted Gary C. to say his trademark line. I agree with Ice, EVERYONE wanted to hear it. How awesome that Bridges was there.

Ponch - one of my two favorite cast members this year. What a great guy. He looked like he was having so much fun at the restaraunt. Hilarious when they were changing and he had the bow-tie on with no shirt. I love how they always make his teeth glitter. Seems to be the only guy who can reel in Ice when he loses it.

Tammy Faye - my other favorite member. She is genuinely a great person and I would have never thought it. I can't believe she even did this but I'm thrilled she's part of it. I love her interaction with Ron. Truely great TV.

Traci - I'm kind of biased against Traci, as I had the opportunity to meet her once (she was part of a film project that never materialzed in my hometown, and my Film Production class in College got an opportunity to work with the crew). She really is a total bitch. She actually seems a little bit nicer on the show, but you can still see the contempt oozing out of her. I think as long as they keep her drunk, it'll be okay. At least that way, Ron Jeremy is getting a little.

Trishelle - I still don't know why she's there. I've never seen "Real World" so she just doesn't compute for me. No real feelings about her one way or another right now.

Ron - I like Ron a lot, but I think he brings up his "profession" a little too much. Yeah, we know you're in porn Ron, you don't have to make a reference to it every five minutes. At the beginning of this episode, didn't it look like Ron was sleeping naked, and hanging out of the covers? Why would it be so hard for Traci to see his schlong?

The job - What a great idea. Tammy hit it right on the head when she said that sometimes it's good "to walk a mile in someone else's moccaisins(sp?)". It looked like they all had fun except for Gary Coleman, and that was alright with me. What was the purpose of having him involved anyway? What a punk, ditching out like that. Quitter. Ice needed to realize the joke with the banana was good only for like 2 seconds, and not nearly as funny as Ron's line, "Why would I want to make it look smaller?"

Ice cooking breakfast - So am I to understand someone really lives in this house and there are rooms that are "off-limits"? Why the pantry? Seems silly to me. Let the people live there. Ice wanted salt. No big deal to me.

The dinner - seemed pretty pointless. Most of the jokes about acting like one another must have been "inside".

Delivering cookies - They could have made this look less set up. I mean come on, the camera was in the guys house before he even answered the door. I guess they don't expect the average viewer to notice these things, and in fact, most don't.
Too much anger directed at the lady who turned them away. Not that big of deal guys.

Drunk Traci - entertaining to a point, but this could get out of hand. Pouring bottled water on people ins't cool no matter how drunk you are. I predict Ron will get something from her before it's all said and done. She's too much of a slut.

Next week with the Psychic looks promising.

Anything I forgot?

I thought it was funny that Todd and Ice were buddies. Didn't Todd knock the crap out of him in Celebrity Boxing not long ago?

As for Gary, he really should work on those issues. I'm sure he's sick of that past and would like to move past it, but it just ain't gonna happen. He wants to capitalize off his fame to keep something of a career going, yet he gets pissed when people bring up the very thing he's famous for. Funny though, that Ice has the exact same problem, yet he didn't recognize the similarity between Gary's issues and his own, even as Erik brought them up.

I did have to laugh at the Iceman's speech about how he hated the cheeseball aspect of the show (Duh! Why else would people watch?) and laughed even harder when he tried to say how the first Surreal cast was so much cheesier. Really? I'd say for sheer oddball cheese spectacle: Tammi Faye beats Hammer (religious types), Erik Estrada beats the 90210 girl (former tv star as the 'responsible' one of the house), and Ron Jeremy trumps Vince Neil (bad boy).

People I'd love to see in a future Surreal Life:

Andrew Dice Clay
Ru Paul
Mr. T (he's a preacher now, so he fits that that role)
Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster)
La Toya Jackson
Traci Lords

I literally fell off the couch watching Gary Coleman's meltdown at the restaurant. Oh, man, that was funny stuff. Ice was pretty unsympathetic to Gary given his own issues of his past "identity" crisis of being marketed one way that he feels doesn't represent who he is/was.

More drunk Traci, please.

All I know is I was channel surfing and all of a sudden I see Gary Coleman interviewing Ron Jeremy. Gary asks Ron about what he does for a living and Ron's response was I'm an actor.

Gary's meltdown was kind of understandable to me. Certainly he could have handled the situation better, but he fired Ice, and clearly the Producers hung him out to try, and the Ice picked him up and carried him around the diner. That's a bit much for an adult to put up with, especially from a raging hypocrite like Ice. I couldn't stop laughing at how pathetic he was demanding Coleman exploit to his childhood persona while at the same time overreacting like a 6-year old whenever anyone mentioned Vanilla Ice. From dramatic effect, they're trying to paint him sympathetic, but he seems like he's just a scumbag. I hope his "legions of followers" are enjoying this.

I love the intro part where Traci trumpets herself as the most down-to-earth celebrity you'll ever meet. Yeah, all average people refuse to bathe if the color isn't right.

"Down-to-earth" celebs get their breasts pumped up to ridiculous proportions? Riiiight...

I'm surprised she didn't have any black eyes from chasing Ice around the house for the hour.

bravo to eric estrada. he shows he is one classy cat in these last two episodes.

johnny rocket needs to shoot himself or shutup. i can't stand how he says that he could'nt shed the image of what was not him over the years, but he forces gary coleman to recite lines from his past. what a hypocritical arseh0le.

dvd boxset will hopefully have the blurred out boobs of drunk traci removed.

This show is just so much fun. Doesn't matter about the cast.. It's a good idea, and the fact that it's not major stars, at least anymore, makes it better.. YOu know if if were major stars they would never be themselves or get drunk and run around mad.

My only regret, is that gary coleman and emmanuel lewis weren't in the same house. I think it would be so interesting to hear the two share stories and stuff.. Imagine that comedy..

I agree. Mr T would be a great pick for the next season, so would dice clay.. ha Comedy. I also think they should throw in one of the brady kids, in addition to like hulk hogan or something. Good times.

I like all teh cast, minus vanilla, and traci. I'm really suprised how much I like tammy faye, and the dude from chips. Also, Ron, is really cool.. shockingly.

Although I think Coleman did overreact, I could see why he was mad about saying his "famous line". I've seen other shows (Howard Stern for example) where people try to get him to say it and he reacts in the same manner. Ice was being an a$$ about it though. I don't think any man would appreciate being carried around a restaurant.

I like this cast quite a bit. They each have their moments that annoy me, but overall they are entertaining. I can't believe how much of a biotch Traci is. Has she even been in anything that would give her celebrite status? If it wasn't for Baywatch of Playboy nobody would have ever heard of her.

While you are correct, she's still more famous than Trishelle. Although Trishelle is not nearly as much of a bitch.

That is definitely true; however, Trishelle is supposed to be the wildcard/reality "celebrity" like Jerri was from season one.

I would venture to say that more young Americans would recognize Trishelle over Traci.

I think you over estimate how many people care about "The Real World". I'm not saying you're wrong, but come on. "The Real World"? I don't think so.

I have to say that this was the perfect group of D-list celebrities for the show. Ron Jeremy, Vanilla Ice, Tammy Faye Baker and Erik Estrada. The show needs some work though. I'm not that interested in watching them trying to run a restaurant for a day.

I really like this show. It's nice to see so many of these people labeled has-beens getting some airtime again. I think Gary should have told Rob that if he wanted him to say "What you talkin 'bout Willis?", he'd have to put on the old parachute pants and sing some Ice Ice Baby for everyone in the restaurant. Then I think Vanilla would get the point why Gary didn't want to say it. Of course it's what he's most famous for, but that doesn't mean he isn't trying to move on.

I was wondering about the Gary colemen thing, was this filmed during the recall and wasn't Gary running? would that explain why he was so uptight? Anyway I didn't think I would like this season at all but after watching the first episode I was hooked again. Vanilla ice telling the others that Gary should just get over it was too funny. Dude get a clue! Anybody else notice that the least down to earth celebrities always describe themselves as the most down to earth?

I think Vanilla Ice trying to deep fry Gary Coleman has to be one of the classic TV moments of all time. Vanilla Ice then worried that they are trying to skew his image with "cheese factor" is a close second.

That whole scene where Vanilla Ice kept picking up Gary Coleman was embarassing for all involved... GREAT SHOW!

Todd Bridges beat the Ice out of Vanilla Ice (became just plain Vanilla in my eyes after that beating).

I believe it's the former estate of Glenn Campbell.

I can't imagine that someone actually lives in this house between seasons; can you imagine UN-decorating the place?!?

I'm liking this show. Not as much as last season, but it's still pretty good. Yeah, Ice is way hypocritical, but he's still cooler than Corey Feldman, IMO.

I am not a violent person, but I would have a REALLY hard time restraining myself if Traci did to me what she did to Ron this ep. Pouring water on him and hitting him all the time. I would have been SO pissed. I'd take Trishelle over Traci any day.

Next week looks interesting, but I like Tammy now, I don't want to see her cry.
