I have a question about Video Component

I just got a flat screen television for Xmas. I hooked my DVD player up with Video Component. I have some questions about Video Component. The first question is I notice between S-Video, Video Component and RCA Cables that Video is has a slight darker setting to it. Is this normal for this to happen? What is a better cable? S-Video or Video Component? My last question is this kind of hard to explain but I will try my hardest. I notice on some of my movies in darker scenes that when there is a brighter color it kind of shadows. Sometimes at the end credits I see a white shadow appearing along with it. Is this normal for my Video Component to do this?. I hope that I didn’t confused you with all my questions. I hope you can help me out. Frank.

You should ask this question in the hardware area, where you'll get a much better response. This area is for discussing DVD software.

This thread will get moved shortly, but here's the quick answer:

Component is better than S-Video, although you will notice more of an improvement with 16:9 discs if the television has anamorphic stretch or is natively widescreen. You also need to use component cables if you want to use the progressive scan feature found on most DVD players. As for the white shadow, are you viewing it on a LCD TV? Could be that, as some LCDs don't handle dark scenes extraordinarily well and you can end up with various effects.

You may also want to check your DVD player options to see if there's a componenet/s-video option. Some have this to change the brightness in the player itself a bit.
