Battle Royale
Has anyone seen the 2001 Japanese flick Battle Royale? I'm considering picking up the R-0 DVD and would just like to know if it's worth the money (and if it's as good as people on IMDB say it is). I don't mind excessive violence and a big Survivor/Lord of the Flies fan, so the concept sounds interesting as well. Try to avoid major major spoilers if possible.

Battle Royale was a great flick. Pretty much it's "the running man" on uh.. japanese acid? I dunno, it's well worth a pick up.
Now which one did you plan on getting?

Now, after you've seen that it might be worth a watch to sit through Battle Royale II..

With the exception of one part, I was genuinely impressed with this film. It's a very unique mix of the ultra-violent with dark humor and satire, and sentimentality (in a good way). Only a country like Japan would dare to make a film like this.
I recommend it as a double feature with Kyoshi Kurosawa's Cure, which is available on R1 DVD.

Good film, gets mushy in some parts, but thats understandable. I'd recommend the Asian bootleg as an appetizer. Watch it about 10-20 times and then you'll be satisfied enough not to get another version.
