Good Movies that will NEVER be on DVD
Because of another thread, I started thinking of a movie I saw quite a long time ago, and unfortunately, I cannot foresee a time when this film would be likely to be released on DVD. It seems so much of what gets released are either New films, Criterion or movies that have gained sudden interest due to a celebrity or it's subject matter. (Like On Golden Pond got released due to K. Hepburns death)
The movie was The Chocolate War, and the most famous person I can think of in it was the OTHER kid from Weird Science.
What would you like to see but fear, that due to it's near anonymity, that it will never make it to disc?

There was a George Lucas film that was done in 1983 called Twice Upon A Time that I really liked. It was animated (via cutouts) and it starred Lorenzo Music (the voice of Garfield) as Ralph the All-Purpose Animal. This was available on laserdisc, but I don't seem to be able to find it.

Torch Song Trilogy.
It's my all-time favorite film, and I keep waiting for it to be released on DVD. I'd have thought that with Harvey Fierstein's popularity in Hairspray, not to mention his Tony Award, it would be a sure bet to be released, but so far, nothing...

It sounds like a lot of the Harold Lloyd films won't make it, as his kin with rights has some pretty lofty goals of what they'd like to generate financially from the Lloyd library. But it's their fault for not better fanning his flame, to keep him up there as a strong icon of the silents.
But how great would it be oneday to see something like The Best of Harold Lloyd: The Criterion Collection.

THE CHOCOLATE WAR is a COOL movie. I picked it up on laserdisc many moons ago and recently purchased the original theatrical poster. Maybe one day it will come out, but I'm sure it will a full-screen, no-frills release.

there was this great HBO movie that came out in the mid 80s called Finnegan Begin Again. probably my favorite Robert Preston performance and a really great movie. i don't expect to ever see it on DVD, but i would gladly pay any price to have it, were they to release it.

never say never...except with those in legal hell or just plain lost forever. lets just say, HURRY-UP with titles like:
Modern Problems
Neighbors
Carbon Copy
They All Laughed
The Other
Inside Moves
original Star Wars
Jane Erye(original)
THX1138
Crack In the World
...and a bunch others that I'm too impatient to wait quietly for.

I think everything will come on DVD in the next 4-5 years. Call me crazy, but unless it is plagued by legal problems (Batman 1960's T.V. series), it will eventually end up on DVD. Look at Kino's DVD of The Man Who Laughs. It's one of my favorite movies, but I thought it would NEVER come out. Now, it's on DVD.
However, I wish these titles are coming soon:
Petrified Forest
Captain Blood
Angels With Dirty Faces
Public Enemy
Roaring Twenties
Across The Pacific
African Queen
Laura
White Heat
From Beyond the Grave
Mad Love
The Magnificent Ambersons
Greed
The rest of the stuff I want has been announced/rumored for 2004.

Actually, Harold Lloyd may come to DVD after all. Of all the companies, Columbia is going to be handling the upcoming theatrical re-issues of some of his films.
THX-1138 is coming soon... Lowry Digital Images is working on a video restoration for the film.

I'm starting to think that The Conformist will never get released.
Also, Short Cuts seems to be New Line's last priority even though they have a pretty small list of titles in their catalog and they'd rather release those crappy catalog b-rate comedies.
Wake up Paramount and New Line !!

A Man Called... RAINBO is Stallone's best movie ever. Now where's that rug we use to diaper the buffalo?
