They just released a dvd over on their side of the pond called Lamentations, that is going to be released over here in February. It's a full concert I believe as well as some behind the scenes/recording stuff.

Just a quick question to Opeth fans out there. I never really got into Opeth because of the singers "growl" (I absolutely hate that style of vocals) so I was wondering....do they have any albums without the growl and just singing? The music itself sounds awesome (from what I have heard).

Here's another recommendation for 'Damnation'. The whole album is so laid back, that it is hard to believe that Opeth, one of the most progressive metal bands are responsible for it.
I personally love 'Deliverance' (the counter part to 'Damnation') but when I just want peaceful, laid back music, the first cd I go to is 'Damnation'.

The band is just incredibly brilliant though. And what's kinda funny is the lyrics are so loud and growl-like, but the content is quite the contrary. A lot of the songs are more in the vein of love or loss, not rage and just being pissed off.
Damnation is an excellent album. It's very mellow, and displays his singing voice. I'd suggest Deliverance and Blackwater park for a better taste of the way they mix the 2 extremes.

DVD Information from the press release if you guys are interested:
I'm not a huge Opeth fan so I probably won't be reviewing this one, but I thought I'd give you a heads up on what I know. That track order is also incorrect FYI.

The DVD, presented in High Definition widescreen format, offers audio options in Stereo, 5.1 Surround, and DTS, and the 2-hour set list offers a brilliant mix of OPETH's finest offerings, including a performance of the Damnation album in its entirety!
The track listing includes:
Windowpane
Weakness
In My Time of Need
Harvest
Death Whispered a Lullaby
The Leper Affinity
Closure
Master's Apprentices
Hope Leaves
Deliverance
To Rid The Disease
The Drapery Falls
A Fair Judgment
Ending Credits
Lamentations Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire 2003 also includes a 65-minute documentary on the making of the Deliverance and Damnation albums, where fans can actually witness the actual composition and production of the two releases. Composed of in-depth behind-the-scenes footage, studio outtakes, and interviews with the entire band (guitarist/vocalist Mikael Γ kerfeldt, guitarist Peter Lindgren, bassist Martin Mendez, drummer Martin Lopez) as well as producer/collaborator Steven Wilson (vocalist/guitarist for the progressive outfit Porcupine Tree), the "making of" feature offers an intuitive glimpse of true masterminds at work.

My three favorite songs are growling-free:
1) Credence
2) Benighted
3) Remember Tomorrow

Most of the songs are a combination of both. It's more of a growl than a scream. You can make out the words sometimes, but it's usually just gutteral growling. THen he sings, like really sings. He has a pretty decent voice. Some songs are really quiet, most are really loud with quiet parts and a combo of both singing styles.
