need a good S-VHS VCR... any recommendations?

I don't want to pay a ton for it though because I could just save up and buy a D-VHS deck if that was the case. $300.00 or so, or less, would be great. thanks.

I don't know the model numbers, but JVC has one that has S-VHS input and output. They also have one that only has the S-VHS output. They may have another. The one that has output only is usually than $100. The one with input and output is somewhere around $130-$150, I think.
The other day, I was in Best Buy and noticed the JVC D-VHS for a little over $550...........

If I may make a recommedation. The JVC HR-S9900U is a top notch SVHS player. MSRP was 599.95, but you can find them on Ebay or other auction sites for a couple hundred bucks. I paid 220 for my refurbished one with warranty. It has more features than the HR-S9911U currently out (i.e. ghost reduction tuner etc...) and is last years model. You still might even be able to find them new at a heavily discounted price. That was the only vcr I would consider. It has super high build quality and more features you can shake a stick at. Wholeheartedly recommended if you are going to get a vcr. Info can be found HERE

I saw an open box JVC 2902 SVHS VCR for $65 yesterday, would this be a good deal? I have never heard of this model, just the older JVC models with the higher model numbers.

Can't believe I paid about $750 for my Mitsubishi HSU770 S-VHS. Ohhh, the memories.

My JVC HR-S3811U was a nice S-VHS recorder, considering that it only cost about $125. However, the tape wouldn't eject anymore last month, so I declared it DOA. Yep, after 1 year 2 days of use.
