The Lost (and overlooked) 80's

So a friend of mine is unbelieveably HUGE into the 80's. Tired of my mainstream hits disc at work - your Berlins, Madonnas and so on - he set out to educate me on some of the lesser known stuff (My fave of the bunch so far: Why Me by Planet P. Never heard of them at all in the 80's.)

Anyway, I thought I'd turn to you guys. I'd like to blow his mind when I got back, and pull out some overlooked 80's songs. Not nessassarly 1-hit-wonders or anything like that - just cool songs that may have slipped through the cracks.

Thoughts?

Wow, there are a TON of these. I'll bet there is a great listing out there somewhere on the net. I could probably come up with a bunch also, but here's what I can do over the next couple of minutes.

"No More I Love You's" The Lover Speaks
"Say You Will" Blanket of Secrecy
"Eyes of a Stranger" Payolas
"I Got You" Split Enz
"China" Red Rockers
"Wishful Thinking" or "King in a Catholic Style" China Crisis
"Never Never" The Assembly
"Captain of Her Heart" Double (although this was a small hit)

I'll try and come up with more later if I have time.

UB40's first release of "Red Red Wine" in '83 was a top 40 hit in the U.S., and the re-release in '88 hit #1, so I wouldn't really consider that lost or overlooked in the same sense as many of these other songs.

Neither of these bands are that obscure either, but two of my favorite songs from the era are "News at Ten" by the Vapors and "No Thugs In Our House" by XTC.

Perfect songs! Gotta add "Telephone Operator" by Pete Shelly as well. What a goofy, but wonderful song.

Skip Love and Rockets - Motorcycle and go with "No New Tale to Tell", or anything off of Express or Earth, Sun, Moon.
