This Week's CDs (12/15-19)

Damien Rice - O
The High Llamas - Beet Maize & Corn
Keller Williams - Loop
Mason Jennings - Century Spring
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
Beulah - Yoko

QOTD: 2003's drawing to a close. What are you most looking forward to in 2004?

AOTD: Rumor has it, the Old 97's are releasing a new album in '04. That'll certainly be at the top of my list. Hoping to eventually find that Television live album (Live at the Old Waldorf) Rhino Handmade is supposedly releasing (I've seen reviews of it, but it's not in stores and it's not listed on Rhino's website). Already looking forward to hitting the Austin City Limits Fest again next year with a much bigger crew than went with me this year...which was by far the most fun I've ever had at such a large music event. Finally, now that I've come to terms with the fact that Ryan Adams will probably never release any music that means anything to me ever again, I'm actually beginning to look forward to watching his descent into self-parody and irrelevance.

World Party - Goodbye Jumbo
Dixie Chicks - Home
Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool
Soundtrack of Our Lives - Behind the Music
Vince Guaraldi - Charlie Brown Christmas Sdtk.
Freedy Johnston - Can You Fly

AOTD: A new Old 97's album would be most welcome, although I think Gdrlv's taste and mine differs somewhat when it comes to them (I really like Fight Songs and find Satellite Rides bland; I think Gdrlv would reverse those). I think Spoon is supposed to release a new album this spring. They Might Be Giants are due for another CD. New U2 album. Hopefully actually seeing some live shows.

Chris Brokaw - Red Cities
The Timeout Drawer - Presents Left for the Living Dead EP
Nelly Furtado - Folklore
Manitoba - Up In Flames
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen...
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Good Health

AOTD: My most wanted album, John Vanderslice's Cellar Door, is just a few weeks away, so that's really got me excited. Beyond that, I'm looking forward to new Wilco, 90 Day Men, Burning Brides, Bjork, Walkmen, Fiona Apple, and Hikaru Utada. I'd love to hear some new stuff from the Old 97s if it's really in the works...

And some who might have new albums coming up (pleasepleaseplease!): Portishead, National Skyline, RJD2, Pedro the Lion.

Q of the D:
Wilco
90 Day Men (heard it already - 5/7ths of it is quite good)
Blonde Redhead

Recent Spins:
Stereolab - "Dots and Loops"
Tindersticks - "Curtains"
Calla - "Televised" EP

Here's a review of a "great" Ryan Adams show:
http://www.startribune.com/stories/1526/4269174.html

He just needs to stop, immediately.

former Replacements singer Westerberg said Adams "needs to get his teeth kicked in."

The most astute observation I've read about Mr. Adams in a long, long time...

I recently read a glowing review of the album in some magazine, are you referring to his mix CD or an actual album (I would assume the former).

The actual album. I've been told that the disc baffles Felix fans -> it's a hard right turn. Which makes me all the more curious. I should have it any day now.
