What is the best selling DVD of all time???
Hello:
Does anyone here know what the best selling DVD of all time is? I know Finding Nemo broke the one days sales total last month, but what is the OVERALL number one selling DVD since the format was first introduced? Likewise what is the second best, third best, etc. I thought I read somewhere that it was the Matrix, but not sure if that still holds true or what the source was for that statistic...
Is there like a top ten list somewhere floating on the internet that keeps track of these sorta figures and if so where? Think of this like the Top 10 box office list that is widely published (i.e. Titanic, Star Wars, E.T. etc). I need to know if there is one for DVD's-one that tracks both total units sold and DVD sales gross...
Thanking you in advance for your comments and apologies if this topic has been addressed before.

Boston Herald reported that Finding Nemo broke the all-time DVDs sold record in the first week of release, a record previously held by LOTR:FOTR (full screen + widescreen + EE + EE gift set).

Skews the results entirely.
I would think the original Matrix has sold the most copies, since that movie has been around a while on DVD, and there hasn't been a rerelease of it (except that package with Revisited, which I wouldn't count)

What? Finding Nemo's for the mentally unstable... well, we all know how many are out there now. I didn't get it 'cause I'm still sane. Got Scarface, TTT:EE and Leon The Professional Superbit instead.

Gladiator outsold the first Matrix.
Spider-Man was the top-seller for a time.
Monster's, Inc. was the top seller of all time before Finding Nemo, which is now the best selling DVD of all time.
Already.

I read last week in the usa today that Fellowship of the Ring was # 3 on the all time best seller list with 14.2 million, EE set 5.5 million, Gift set 1.1 million, Two Towers was at 10.2 million for the 2 disc edition. Also said Nemo was #1 and Spiderman was #2 did not give any #'s in sales on them though

I believe the Finding Nemo stats are for first week sales not cumulative. Also, I read somewhere that these numbers aren't always accurate since the units sold is counted when the discs leave the manufacturer rather than when people purchase them from a retailer. So the discs that are sitting in the companies' warehouses are considered "units sold" according to these stats.

As much as I enjoy LOTR, I can't see it being the #1 dvd sold of all time (what 6 years now?)
I imagine it would be a family film or Spiderman. I know Shrek set some records the first week it was out as well. Although I would put Matrix up there over LOTR in sales guesses.

I found this article:
http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,12945,00.html
Says that Nemo beat the all-time record in 2 weeks of release, 15 million to top FOTR's 14.5 million (which doesn't seem to include EEs).
The previous 1-day record-holder was Spiderman, until Nemo.
However, all-time record-holder for "home video" (no specific format) is Lion King w/ 32 million, followed by:
Titanic: 27 million
Shrek: 25 million
Toy Story II: 23.1 million

I love it when people use "of all time" in regards to DVD's . . . it makes it sound like they've been around for centuries or something.

Impressive that the little fish can pull in so many sales so quickly.
I thought The Martix would be #1, it has been in the top 30 DVD sales every year since it has been released.
If the number of DVD sales is for USA/Canada only, then that would me mean about 1 out of 2 households will have a Nemo DVD by the end of the Chritmas season.
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articl...advdsales.html
USA DVD Totals = 59,003,353
Canada DVD Totals = 5,900,335
Both Totals = 64,903,688
Minus DVD players that have gone bad (I'm on my 3rd Player) and households with more than one player (I have 2):
Total of real households with DVD Players = 50,000,000 (little more or a little less)
