Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi - Japan March 11th 2004

Saw this listed over on DVDTimes.co.uk

Zatoichi

Bandai Visual have announced the Japanese Region 2 DVD release of Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi for 11th March 2004 with a retail price of 3990 Yen. Kitano's 2003 reinterpretation of this classic Japanese series sees him star as the infamous blind swordsman, Zatoichi, and has resulted in a film that has garnered many awards and critical acclaim as it toured festivals around the world.

The 'First Pressing' of this release will feature (as far as I can tell) limited edition special packaging and a bonus disc totalling 120-minutes of special features including behind-the-scenes material, interviews and more (a logbook is also mentioned).

The specs for the movie disc are:
Anamorphic Widescreen transfer
Japanese DD5.1 Surround
English and Japanese Subtitles
"Hot News Report"
Theatrical Trailer
TV Spot

I caught this film at the Toronto International Film Festival. It's worth owning; but, will it have English subtitles?

Already up for pre-order:

Too darn expensive as always. I'll wait for a cheaper release from HK or somewhere else.

I am happy to say, yes!!!

I missed this in Toronto , but I've seen the trailer, got the Japanese film program, and love both Kitano and the original Zatoichi films, and I can't wait to buy this DVD! Screw waiting for Miramax to do whatever the hell they are going to do with this film in the US (if anything).

I got mine on pre-order. The set looks great and I'm glad I bought it. I almost saw it at the Busan film festival, but I missed it. I also have Azumi on order, which should come in a short while. I also have Alive and Aragami coming soon enough, both from that Versus dude, Kitamura.

For those of you who like Tak Sakaguchi, you might want to check out Battlefield Baseball. I haven't seen it but I've read it's great. The SE/LE - whatever they're calling it - looks great, but it's kind of expensive. I pre-ordered mine from cdjapan.
