Adjusting Sony Widescreen

I just bought a 34inch Sony widescreen for my Onkyo 6 cd/DVD changer. when i put a dvd in to watch i can still adjust the screen on the TV as if the TV were NOT receiving a widescreen feed. i selected widescreen for the output on the DVD player. Some people have told me that some movies although they say widescreen (for example lion king) do NOT truly send a widescreen signal to the TV. My hookup is DVD player via component cable to onkyo receiver via component cable to TV. any suggestions? thanks

you should only have to adjust the television screen to widescreen, IF the dvd in question is presented in "Anamorphic" widescreen. There are many discs out there which are widescreen, but non-anamorphic.

I hope this clears it up for you. If you have further questions regarding this, you might want to take a look at some of the other, well established threads which discuss widescreen in depth.

I also have a Sony 34" widescreen tv. On most widescreen DVDs your Sony set should be on "full." On nonanamorphic titles you will want to switch it to zoom. It sounds like you have everything set up right, otherwise.
