RCA drops Justin Guarini

One down, three to go. Who else thinks Ruben is next?

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Justin Guarini, the second-place finalist for the first season of "American Idol," has reportedly been dropped by RCA.

The label, which no longer lists him on its Web site, declined comment. Guarini's eponymous debut album has sold 134,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
million copies since its release in October.

US Weekly quoted "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell as saying, "He's been dropped. It happens sometimes."

Guarini did not appear on last week's Fox "An American Idol Christmas" TV special, although he was initially announced as one of the performers. 19 Entertainment, which signed Guarini to a management deal after his appearance on "Idol," did not return calls.

Guarini's record-label woes aren't the only problem facing the singer. As previously reported, on Nov. 7 he was sued for more
By contrast, the debut from first-season "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson (news), "Thankful," has sold 1.7 million copies. Second-season finalist Clay Aiken's "Measure of a Man" has sold 1.3 than $100,000 by a Pennsylvania couple claiming injuries from a rear-end auto collision that Guarini was involved in last year.

"American Idol's" third season premieres Jan. 20, 2004. According to published reports, music producer Pete Waterman, a judge on the U.K.'s "Pop Idol," is in discussions to join the show as a fourth judge alongside current "American Idol" judges Paula Abdul (news), Randy Jackson and Cowell.

I read that article. I never cared for his voice so that's good news.

I liked Ruben but not enough to buy his album. Same sentiment for Kelly and Clay.

Let us now bow our silence in memory of one of our banned members. What a great thread this could have been.

The problem, I think, with American Idol is that it's essentially gameshow karaoke. It might be fun to see these people compete with each other singing other people's songs, but I sure as hell won't run out to buy their lame-assed albums.

I so totally agree. Can't remember the handle right now, but I think there was a "51" somewhere in there?

EDIT:

I was wrong, it was 'mcbg1' and for those interested in what mine and Groucho's comments refer to, check out the following threads. Also good for a few laughs:

Unless that sentence is finished with the phrase "...out of the corporate jet," THEY HAVEN'T GONE FAR ENOUGH.

I was one of a few people that was present when he almost hit a little girl with a jet ski. He came out of the water at top speed and the thing travelled at least 25 - 30 yards missing the girl ['bout 10 or 11 yrs] by a few feet. I really don't think he even saw her.

At the time I didn't know it was him. I read about it in the paper a few days later. Turns out Clarkson was there with him. He seemed to act like a brat, not spoiled, just obnoxious.

Good for RCA.

I love my little niece, so I suffered though it. I'm a bit ashamed to say it....but I think Justin is kind of sexy....in a cheesy way.
