okay here is the deal, i played final fanatsy (1.85:1) and it fills up the screen and the picture looks normal, when there should be some tiny black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, i tried another 1.85:1 movie same thing, i tried some 2.35:1 movies and there are black bars and the picture looks normal, and 1.78:1 movies fill up the screen and which it should and the picture looks normal

so everything plays okay except for 1.85:1 movies

so is this normal, or is something wrong with my system

but isn't the 1.85 movies going to be distorted a bit if it fills up the 1.78 tv

i would rather have the black bars for the 1.85 movies

No. It's not stretched or anything.

The typical 5% overscan of the display causes the 1.85 picture to fill the screen. 1.78 movies lose some of the picture.
