“The Bear” unavailable on DVD, or even VHS…?

There was a film released in 1984 (according to IMDB) entitled The Bear which was a movie about Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant of the University of Alabama.

I did a quick search on Yahoo regarding this film, yet have found very little. I have never seen the film, and was simply curious about it. It seems that it has never been released on video in any format.

Does anyone know why, or have any additional information regarding this picture?

The Bear

Maybe they've changed the User Comment since you visited the IMDB site, but it has an explaination: the Bryant family bought the rights because they didn't like the film.

This thread reminded me of the excellent movie of the same name by Jean-Jacques Annaud. Gonna see if the DVD is any good and pick it up.

BTW...Gary Busey as P"B"B? I think Tom Berenger makes a better Bryant. hard to imagine Busey in the role.

Is it this one?

If so, I have to make a special trip ASAP.

That mother bear was robbed of her well-deserved Oscar. Politics.

I've gone all over looking for it and can't find it. Dis-a-ppointed!

I have seen 'The Bear' that Commender Dan refers to. It was shown in my local movie theater back in 1984, and I only saw it once. Best of my recollection the movie was horrible and very low budget. Most University of Alabama fans that have seen it hate it with a passion. I think even the university may have denounced it.

It was supposed to be released on VHS a while back but the producers pulled it.
