I don't know what to make of this episode. It had very few laughs except the last minute and wasn't all that great.
I guess they're just running out of cultures/religions/conventions to make fun of.

I feel the same way. I never had heard about the origin of the Mormons. That's it? Dum(b) Dum(b) Dum(b).
Great stuff. And that ending ranks right up there with the ending in the Christian Rock one with Butters.

I didn't laugh much during the episode, but the last scene definitely had me cracking up.

I'm pretty familiar with the mormon religion - a lot of my friends are mormons - and I laughed harder at this episode than most other South Parks. The flash-backs to Joseph Smith literally had me on the ground. It just had a lot of the stuff I always think - but never say.

I thought this episode was absolutely hilarious. Like Slop101, I know a ton of Mormons, and this was a spot-on parody of them. Excellent episode.
For those that didn't think it was funny, spend some time in an area heavily populated by Mormons. Then watch it again. You'll understand.

Or read a book about Joseph Smith...this was perhaps the best 22 minutes of satire i've ever seen anywhere...absolutely brilliant.
Seriously...do a little reading about the founding of Mormonism and then rewatch this episode....I helped teach a course on the Overland Trail a few years ago and we had a few mormons in the class....it was always fascinating to hear what they had been taught growing up. I would love to sit with them and watch this again!!

About midway thru, I started to think they were laying it on pretty thick and they were going to take it in a different direction. I'm not too familiar with Mormonism, but I could see a good social commentary in this episode.
Not a lot of laughs, but a good story regardless.

I don't know any Mormons nor do I know much about their religion so perhaps that is why I didn't laugh that much. However there still were some funny parts. You just know that the next new episode has got to have Michael Jackson in it though.

Yeah, if Cartman and Friends don't take a visit to the Neverland Ranch next week, I'll be disappointed. Then again, shooting fish in a barrel can be a bit boring, so who knows ...

Well Cartman has already sucked Sea Men from a garden hose in a previous episode so he might feel right at home at Neverland.

I thought this was a pretty good episode. When they were telling the story and someone had a good, questionable objection to Young, background music would kick in "smart smart smart smart smart"....then back to "dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb"...lol good episode.

Gary's baby sister, Amanda, was my favorite part.
"Hello Stan!"
This was about the funniest and smartest South Park I've ever seen. I too have acquired all my knowledge of Mormons from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I don't need to know any more. I can't imagine this episode being any funnier than it already is. I don't think I could survive it. I would probably blow my humor fuse like Cartman did when he saw the Butt-face people.
I love how they play both sides of the issue. Nobody wins. Brilliant.
Who else can't wait to see Gary again? This is going to be a great character for South Park!

Very good episode, not so much for the laughs, but for the satire aspect. As soon as I saw Gary, I knew it had to be a Mormon storyline.

No one has mentioned my favorite part, which was Stan's dad putting his coat on while holding his beer. He sticks the hand holding the beer through the sleeve and you can see it moving down the length of the coat on the inside.
Little things like that crack me up.
My wife and I have been commenting that they seem to be using the 3rd dimension a bit more in the show (specifically where Joseph Smith was in bed when the Angel appeared, and in the Christian Rock episode when Token kicks Cartman's ass.) It makes the show look a little fancier.

I loved this episode-going through high school with Mormons (and playing in the Mormon church basketball league for 2 years with my best friend).
The kicker for me was the "Smart, smart, smart, smart, smart"...pulled the whole thing into perspective.
And what would you know - yesterday, 2 female missionaries show up at my fdoor (like they do every month to bug me). Doesn't "NO SOLICITING" also mean "Don't try selling Christ to me?"
