Anchor Bay to release Hammer double feature discs

From Fangoria:

Having paired a number of their previous genre titles on Drive In double-feature DVDs recently, Anchor Bay Entertainment is now doing the same with their Hammer discs. Ten separate packages will be issued January 13, 2004; each will contain two DVDs with all the special features from the previous releases, priced at $24.98. The movie duos are:

• THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN/SHATTER
• THE DEVIL RIDES OUT/RASPUTIN, THE MAD MONK
• DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS/THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA
• 4 SIDED TRIANGLE/X THE UNKNOWN
• FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN/LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES
• THE LOST CONTINENT/THE REPTILE
• THE MUMMY’S SHROUD/PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES
• PREHISTORIC WOMEN/THE WITCHES
• QUATERMASS AND THE PIT/QUATERMASS 2
• THE VENGEANCE OF SHE/THE VIKING QUEEN

Only 3,000 copies of each double feature will be manufactured and available for a limited time, after which they will not be issued again by Anchor Bay.

I am glad they are doing this but making them so limited is annoying.

I wish they weren't limited. The other irritating thing is that I have one movie from most of the sets. I'll have to see what on-line prices are like.

I will try my best to pick up all of them, but the fact they are goin to be so limited is complete bullshit. I may head over to DDD.com and get 'em. Should be rather cheap.

I will pick these up because I never picked up the single disc issues. That 3,000 number sounds low for even AB, maybe it was a mis-print and the actual # is 30,000

As always with these double bills - I inevitably have one of the pair on several of them. They do this to annoy me.....

I agree. This is only "limited edition packaging" I picked up about one from each set when they were 2.99 at SunCoast. I'll probably try to get the ones I don't have, but I won't be heartbroken if I don't.

Has it been confirmed that Blue Underground is indeed releasing some of the Hammer horror films?

Been meaning to pick up LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES for a while. (Hammer/Shaw Bros. co-production) Looking forward to it!

the fact that they are limited doesn't bother me so much as when they claim to be limited and then are released in different packaging but basically the same thing, a la army of darkness

Wow, this is cool news! Definitely want to pick up a few of those, especially THE MUMMY’S SHROUD/PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES and THE DEVIL RIDES OUT/RASPUTIN, THE MAD MONK. Making them limited issue seems very pointless, though.

According to William Lustig himself:

http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Features/bill_lustig.html

You have redone quite a few titles that you previously worked on with Anchor Bay like Django, Daughters of Darkness and Vampyres. Can we perhaps expect you to one day revisit any other titles that you worked on in AB days?

[Bill Lustig] I licensed Anchor Bay about 100 titles which rights have begun reverting back to me. I have plans to revisit many of these films as the terms expire including the early Hammers.

Just a heads up-
I got a notice from dvdempire that the date has been moved up to 11/25, so I double-checked at a few other places and they've also moved the date up.

The discs themselves are identical to the ones that Anchor Bay has had out for years. They've just repackaged them into 2-disc sets.

What's going on with the release of these? My order hasn't shipped from DeepDiscount and after checking recently I noticed the text of the title is missing from one of the discs listed in my order. Now I can't find any listing of these discs on the site. Have they been cancelled?

In all honesty, I don't think these discs actually exist at the moment. They've been yanked off of the Anchor Bay website, they've missed three release dates already... Something tells me the sale of Anchor Bay effectively canceled these releases. I don't know for sure, and I still have a few on order from Amazon (who don't list a release date AT ALL)... But I actually took some good advice and ordered as many of the original single-discs as I could from the Deep Discount 20% off sale.

Of course, those haven't shipped yet EITHER, so I may not be having a very Hammer X-mas after all...

I just received one of the discs - Frankenstein Created Woman/Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. I pre-ordered it at DDD quite a while ago. None of the others I pre-ordered have shipped. I was also getting the 'missing title' when I checked on my order status.

While I don't know what's up with the scarcity of these discs, I can say that at least one of them does exist!

I received a shipping notice from DDD on the 5 that I ordered, so I guess they're out.

Thanks, I was waiting to see if they came out or not before ordering. I bought a couple at DDD that looked like they were in-stock. I wanted to pre-order • QUATERMASS AND THE PIT/QUATERMASS 2 but that is not listed at DDD.

When I ordered Quatermass from DDD, they spelled it "quaRtermass". just a heads-up.

So does anyone know if these are single or double keepcases? Are the original chapter stop cards and poster art replicas included?

thanks.
