Jessica Simpson to get her own series on ABC

LOS ANGELES — Jessica Simpson (search), the singer famous for dippy-blonde moments on her MTV (search) reality show, has reached a deal with ABC to develop a comedy.

"Jessica has infectious energy and unmistakable star quality," ABC Entertainment President Susan Lyne said Friday. "She also has a built-in fan base in both music and television, which is a great jumping off point for us."

Simpson, 23, and her husband, Nick Lachey (search), also agreed to a second season of their reality show, "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica."

The series made Simpson infamous for unintentional humor, including the time she confused the tuna she was eating for chicken.

"Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish?" she asked Lachey, 29, in the show's first episode. "I know it's tuna, but it says 'Chicken by the Sea.'"

My question: Can she act? I saw the episode of "That 70's Show" that she was on the other night and her performance was terrible.

I thought she was pretty funny in That 70s Show. She looked awesome too.

I think she may be better off sticking with unscripted stuff. I'll tune in just for curiosity's sake, though.

Yeah, I'm curious to see if they'll be as delicious on ABC as on MTV.

I would guess that her appeal reaches as many people on MTV as it will on ABC. Very good for MTV, incredibly terrible for ABC.

She could co-star with Paris Hilton and Tara Reid. It could be about three zany roommates in a big city searching for Mr. Right.

Why do they always reference the Chicken By The Sea line, yet the Buffalo wings was WAY better in my opinion.

I'll tune in for the obvious reason.

As if there aren't enough shows being cancelled after only playing three episodes now, they're already planning for more.

If she had Britney Spears over for a slumber party, this show would definitely be a ratings winner.

The first thing I thought of was the doomed "Jenny McCarthy Show" on NBC. Just because somebody's the toast of MTV doesn't mean they can carry over into a bland sitcom.
