Why do country singers sing with a twang?

Some sing with a MAJOR twang.

But singers from England don't show any accent.
The English accent is much more strong when just speaking normally, and country artists rarely speak with a major twang.

I think it's all for show.

It's kinda annoying.

"let me put on my country twang, cause that makes me sound more country and I'll sell more music...Hyuk Hyuk Hyuk..."

Flame on!

I think you'd get a better flame in the music forum.

I always suspected that Garth Brooks could flip it on and off like a switch. Chris Gaines proved me right.

Why do some people complain about nothing just to start an argument?

Mopower, I'm watching all these promotions for tonight's CMA.

Then this question hit me, I thought it was kind of comical.

Last time I looked, this was a forum...

Most country singers have a strong Southern accent that comes through even when they sing. Maybe it has to do with the way we Southerners can't help but relish vowel sounds.

I must say that Keith Urban fakes a good Southern accent for an Aussie.

Because if they didn't have that twang, it would be rock music.

Why do Pearl Jam clones (Creed, Nickelback) sing with a phoney growl?

Why do heavy metal artists sing like their spandex is too tight?

I'd imagine a big chunk of your answer simply has to do with what came before.

Not all of them have the twang. It's just part of the style. Like how, IMO, there are R&B singers out there who "oversing" - part of the genre.

I'm not a fan of any of those bands... but does that mean that PJ's isn't phoney?

But to keep with what you are saying. Why do Emo bands "scream"? Why do metal-core/death metal bands growl?

I love how R & B singers make "brave" an eightteen syllable word when singing the national anthem.

I usually change the channel when an R&B singer is singing our Anthem.

Why do rappers remind us of their name in every song?

Crap, you bet me to it.

That's not always true, but it more than not for mainstream country.

Johnny Cash didn't have much of an accent, yet he's still country. Sheryl Crow doesn't have one, and she can go both ways. Willie Nelson doesn't even play country music, half the time, and doesn't have a heavy accent, yet he's still country.

Actually, most rappers are so under the influence they want us to remind them of who they are.

I thought that was why they all wear cowboy hats.

Yes. Can't stand that TWANG!!! Although I do like country music, i.e. Johnny Cash.

Isn't it ironic that english singers do not project their accent ? They can have the thickest cockney accent, but when they're singing it's just undetectable. Country music is something I don't openly seek out for, guys like Brooks or Faith Hill's guy has a strong twang.

I seriously don't understand how you guys can't hear a British accent when sung? What are some English vocalists that sound American?
