Anybody Ever See "Dark Water"?

Just saw "The Eye" last night and consequently decided to read the Customer Reviews for the DVD at Amazon.com. It said somewhere there that if I liked "The Eye" I would also enjoy "Dark Water". Has anyone seen this movie?

Yup, from Hideo Nakata the director of Ring. Better than Ring IMHO, but perhaps too "slow" for some. I liked it quite a bit.

Its a superb film, the scariest film I have seen for ages, and it takes a lot to freak me out, brilliantly made and yes better than The Ring.

I liked it a whole lot more than The Eye, it's right up there with The Ring. The R3 is cheap!

Another positive vote, great movie, definitely slow-moving but you'll find yourself thinking about it when the lights are out...

Yeah, Dark Water is pretty cool. As was the case for the Ring, they're making a US version of Dark Water (starring Jennifer Connelly)...

I own the HK-Disc of the film(mediocre picture quality(non-anamorphic), dts-track is wonderful).

Well, the movie scared me shitless. Besides, the disc is very cheap.

OK, for those who have seen it, I have a question about the ending:
Spoiler:
Do you think that the lady is actually the drowned girl's mother? There is some mention of the lady (don't remember her name) having some mental issue about ten years ago (it came up during the job interview) which might correspond with her giving up he child. Then, at the end, she tells the ghost that she is her mother. Is she? If not, what is her motivation to allow herself to leave her other daughter and go off with the ghost?

Spoiler:
The ghost was "motherless", so the woman pretended to be her mother to protect her own child.

I didn't like Dark Water at all. I thought
Spoiler:
the ending was a big let down, with the ghost materializing into a monster. I mean we were dealing with a ghost the entire movie and at the very end we get this zombie puppet in the water tank. It's as if the filmmakers forgot what kind of movie they were making and threw that in. It was engaging and creepy up to that point, but then the ending totally ruined it for me.

I never got the notion that
Spoiler:
she was a zombie. She's a ghost, and stays as such, as far as I can see. A ghost that can physically harm, sure - but that doesn't make her a zombie, does it?

I think I need to try watching this again with a different mindset or something. I tried watching watching it last weekend and only made it to the 30 min. mark before pulling it out due to utter boredom.

Of my own personal viewing of the film, I waited a little bit to see due to the mixed reviews at my local cinema.

I went, I saw, I was bored.

For me, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the Ring.

I struggled with Dark Water and IMHO the film struggles too.

Just my 0.02c

I can see how this movie could bore some people, but I personally loved it. After all the creepiness, it turned out to be a really sad story. I like poetically sad stories when they are not expected.

I think the R3 version is the only one available at this time.

Rocket Video (down the street from my house) has lots of Asian films for rent; I have a feeling they have a copy there. I'll check it out. Thanks for the input.

Actually, did some research and found out it is also available in Spain, so if you know spanish or japanese and have a region 2 PAL compatible player, you can get it here:
http://www.dvdgo.com/product.asp?cat...&typeproduct=1

Also, it seems as if Tartan is releasing this in England on November 24 as all region, but probably still PAL. Austrailia gets it in January as region 4 PAL. And oddly enough, this store UK based store has a region 1 version listed as release date "TBA":
http://www.dvdconcept.com/?page=shop...oduct_id=36349

You can check here for prices and such:
