German 'Donnie Darko - 2 Disc Edition Tin' Specs

Well, it seems like there isn't any added bonus material besides an isolated music score.

The full specs:

Audio: German (DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, headphone-surround), English (Dolby Digital 5.1, headphone-surround)
Subtitle: German for Hearing Impaired, German, English

Bonus Features:

- audio commentary: Richard Kelly, Jake Gyllenhall
- audio commentary: Richard Kelly, producer Sean McKittrick,
- producer Nancy Juvonen and Drew Barrymore, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Holmes Osborne, Katherine Ross, Beth Grant and James Duval
- isolated music score
- 20 Deleted Scenes with commentary by Richard Kelly (Deleted Scenes can be seen without commentary)
- Interviews with Cast and Crew
- Behind-the-Scenes Material
- "The Philosophy of Time Travel" book
- "Cunning Visions" infomercials and picture galleries
- "They Made Me Do It" Art Exhibition Clip and picture galleries
- Artwork gallery
- trailers (German, US)
- tv spots (German, US)
- biographies
- 16-page booklet
- 2 DVD Set
- Collectible Case (Tin Box)

all bonus features with german subtitles (which of course can be turned off).

The DVD will be released 1/20/04. There will also be a single-disc edition, so be careful if you order a copy.

Pictures coming soon. There are no infos about the price yet. I'll keep you updated.

The dvd is made by the german dvd producer Mc-One, who did several fantastic releases like the german dvd edition of 'Nowhere in Africa' on which the american dvd is based on.

That sounds really cool. I would probably order this, as I have been pondering picking up Donnie Darko for a while, if only it didn't cost so much to have DVDs shipped from Germany.

Any DVD with a German language track is cool in my book.

I know it is, but I enjoy listening to the German dubs of movies sometimes. I've got to use my degree in German somehow...

...and it doesn't bother you in the least that the dubbed actors all speak the same geschmacksneutrales Buehnendeutsch, regardless of whether they represent a Jewish New York intellectual, a Chicago gangster of Italian extraction, a California beach girl, an Alabama redneck, a Texas cowboy...?...

...the mind boggles...

Hey, I take what I can get.

...even if the actors all sound like they're sitting in a small room talking for the whole movie. I just think German audio tracks make a nice little extra.

I really do wish though that more German made movies would be released over here. I really enjoyed a lot of the ones that I saw oever there, which didn't have the same old pre-fabricated Hollywood plots.

@muggins: Hmmm, i would recommend "Das Experiment". This movie has been released on dvd in the US as i recall it. But hendrik is right about one thing: dubs can't replace the original language track. it just doesn't sound right. even if german dubs are quite professional in comparison to other countries(try polish dubs ).

i always choose the original language track, regardless of which language that might be. i don't mind reading subtitles(as long as they're english or german).

Thanks for the suggestion, Elrond.

I have actually had "Das Experiment" on my wishlist at amazon.com for the past several months. It really interests me, as it is inspired by the Stanford experiment, which was discussed quite a bit in my college classes.

Unfortunately, me being unemployed makes it somewhat difficult to afford, but I imagine once I find a job I'll be able to snag a few titles off of my wish list. Another one is "Der Krieger und die Kaiserin".

I do agree that no dubs could ever sound as good as the original language, but I do like to enjoy them sometimes nonetheless. I think it probably has to do with the fact that I can actually understand what is being said in a foreign language.

@muggins: i can understand that. last time i watched "Anatomie"(by the way: NOT RECOMMENDED! ), i switched over to the english dub. It was quite funny because it sounded so cheesy. But since the movie is crap anyway, i didn't mind. this way i got something worth remembering out of this "Machwerk".

P.S.: I completely forgot about "Der Krieger und die Kaiserin". One of the most wonderful german films in the last 3 decades or so. Tom Tykwer is one of the few talented directors(or persons otherwise related to the movie business) that haven't left germany to earn the big money in Hollywood. And we had quite a few talents(Wolfgang Petersen, Roland Emmerich, Hans Zimmer, Michael Ballhaus).

Anatomy wasn't bad......Anatomy 2 I didn't watch but my gf liked it.

The Experiment, 13.95 at CDWow using the link in the superbit thread is the Region 1 edition and I really enjoyed that movie.

Other films to check out might be:

The Inheritors
Mephisto
Murderers Are Among Us
Luna Papa

...all of which are on my Netflix list to watch.

Princess and The Warrior is interesting as well.

On a related note, I read that a directors cut of DD is going to be released theatrically in the US in 2004, which means a DVD can't be far behind.
