01 - The Twilight Zone (no brainer)
02 - The Invisible Man Monty Python's Flying Circus (no brainer)
03 - Star Trek
Oh man ... gotta go old school on this one. 'City on the Edge of Forever' vs. 'The Inner Light' is a push. 'Spock's Brain' vs. 'Sub Rosa' is a push. Tie-breaker: 'A Piece of the Action'. Riiight? Check.
04 - Farscape (no brainer)
06 - Dr. Who (Futurama rocks, but it ain't no Who)
07 - Angel (no brainer)
08 - Quantum Leap (come on, now ... when will this madness end? )

05. Christ ... why don't you rip my heart out. With the exception of perhaps SportsNight, I can think of no two shows that I have a more emotional attachment to. Certainly there are better shows but none that I love quite like these two.

Episodically, Buffy stands out: 'Becoming I & II', 'Graduation Day I & II', 'Hush', 'The Body', 'Once More with Feeling', 'Chosen'. For 6 years in a row, they put together one of the 5 best episodes on all of television for that season.

For consistency, however, Babylon 5 put together a run unlike any show ever. It had its fair share of stinkers, but from midway through Season 2 through the end of Season 4, it would be hard to find 5 episodes that don't kick serious ass.

IMO, this could have been a worthy final two. In fact, it won't surprise me to see the winner of this round in the finals. How can I possibly choose? The answer: G'Kar and Londo. For as much as I love Buffy, they never reached characterization this strong. Hell, I'm not sure if any show ever has. I have no disillusion that Babylon 5 stands a chance against Buffy in this poll, but I cannot justify not giving it my vote. It reached so high in the face of countless obstacles, clawing and scratching its way to every season, and in the process paving the way (in America) for all the arc-based genre shows we've come to enjoy since, even Buffy.

As much as it pains me to do so, I vote Babylon 5.

Re: Sci Fi / Cult TV Tournament : Round 3

MATCH #01 - THE TWILIGHT ZONE
I'm voting for this show because I don't want to vote for a show named after Dolly Parton.

MATCH #02 - THE AVENGERS
How can a circus fly? Makes no sense.

MATCH #03 - STAR TREK
James Tiberius Kirk was the first space pimp. Don't hate the playa, hate the aliens.

MATCH #04 - LOST IN SPACE
Farscape is a primetime cartoon that isn't South Park. Yes, that makes no sense to some of you. To others who understood what I said...get out of my head! Oh wait, Farscape isn't even a cartoon. Duh. That's Futurama. Okay, now I'm sure nobody understood what I was saying. If you did, you're retarded.

MATCH #05 - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Here's where Pooh Flinger's love doesn't conquer all. I bought the first four seasons of Buffy, though I haven't watch them yet (I watched some shows when they originally aired). I never saw Babylon 5 and I heard the DVD sets are expensive.

MATCH #06 - DOCTOR WHO
Okay, Futurama is a cartoon in primetime. The only cartoon that should be in primetime is South Park. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are my heroes. I'm not gay or nuthin' but I love them. Wait a minute, this is about Doctor Who and Futurama. Never saw either of them.

MATCH #07 - SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN
Lee Majors is cool. He's got a cool voice. He shagged Farrah Fawcett in her prime. Then again, David Boreanaz is married to Jamie Bergman (of Son of the Beach fame...if you can call it fame) and impregnated her with his seed. Lee Majors is way cooler, though. If you think Boreanaz is cooler than Lee Majors, you're crazy or 15.

MATCH #08 - 24
Jack Bauer is the baddest ass on television right now. Elisha Cuthbert has a nice ass. President Palmer's ex-wife is an ass. I predict that space aliens will abduct Kim and probe her this season. Unfortunately, she'll figure out someway to escape.

MATCH #01 - TWIN PEAKS
As much as I love The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks is simply the greatest tv show ever realized. I love that so many people became new fans of the show with the release of Season 1 on dvd, and share their pain that the release of Season 2 is stuck in limbo. Twin Peaks is as cult as tv shows come, and the bizarre scifi/horror elements that this show delves into in its second season make it highly worthy to continue on in this tournament. Alas though, I fear this round may be when I have to say good-bye to my favorite show. If you are a fan, please vote!

MATCH #02 - MONTY PYTHONS FLYING CIRCUS
Neither scifi/horror, nor cult really (I think it has too wide a fan base to be considered that), but I just can't bring myself to vote for The Avengers over this masterpiece that defined "non sequitur television".

MATCH #03 - STAR TREK
I'm not a big fan of anything Star Trek so I like seeing two Trek shows go against each other. It means one of them will be gone soon. That being said, I have to vote for the original series since I did watch it a lot as a kid......and it has William Shatner in it. William Shatner amuses me to no end. He's one of the most arrogant people on the planet, yet he's hilarious, and his "narration" style of singing is an artform unto itself. I have downloaded more of his songs off the internet than I should probably admit in a public forum.

MATCH #04 - FARSCAPE
One of my new favorite shows. Just recently finished Season 1 and am desperately awaiting the arrival of Season 2. This show is just beautiful to look at, I love all the characters, and it has more science in it that most "scifi" shows.

MATCH #05 - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Just started recently watching Babylon 5...and while I haven't yet seen past season 1 (and reached the parts of this show that are so highly praised around here)....there is no way it could steal my vote from Buffy no matter how much I end up liking it in later seasons. My Buffy dvds are rewatched more than anything and for that reason alone I vote for BtVS.

MATCH #06 - DOCTOR WHO
total no-brainer. Doctor Who and Dark Shadows were my favorite tv shows growing up (thanks to PBS!) and since Dark Shadows is already gone from this tournament, I have to vote for the good Doctor. Although I find it hard to watch now as an adult, Doctor Who was as cool as it comes when I was a kid......and Futurama? *blech* I know it is highly popular on these forums, but I don't think that show has ever really made me laugh. I just can't stand it for some reason.

MATCH #07 - ANGEL
I may just like this show more than Buffy....depends what day you ask me and what seasons we are talking about. Either way, BtVS and Angel are IMO the #3 and #4 best tv shows.

MATCH #08 - QUANTUM LEAP
Loved it as a kid, find it a bit silly now......but 24 does not belong in this tournament.

You're killing me here!!!

MATCH #01 - The Twilight Zone
MATCH #02 - Monty Python
MATCH #03 - TNG. This is probably more of a generational thing because I grew up with TNG so that's where my loyalty lies.
MATCH #04 -
MATCH #05 - Babylon 5: first let me say (see das, I told you B5 would win). Very difficult decision here but I'm sticking with B5 simply because I think it was a tad more consistent
MATCH #06 -
MATCH #07 - Six Million Dollar Man
MATCH #08 - Quantum Leap: I'm sorry, I just can't forgive that damn cougar from last season's 24. But starting next week the writers can make it up to me.

ROUND 3 REVIEW
MATCH #01 - THE TWILIGHT ZONE
Total no-brainer.

MATCH #02 - MONTY PYTHONS FLYING CIRCUS
Brilliant writing every episode.

MATCH #03 - STAR TREK
Although TNG had some high points - such as seasons 3 through 5, there was too much crap outweighing the good. The old school trek was a classic in every sense of the word and therefor gets the nod.

MATCH #04 - Abstain
I never really watched either show. I've seen a couple of Lost in Space, but none of the other.

MATCH #05 - BABYLON 5
I enjoy Buffy, but I am JMS's bitch.

MATCH #06 - DOCTOR WHO
Futurerama is ok, but Doctor Who rules.

MATCH #07 - SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN
The kitch value from my youth carrys my six million dollar vote.

MATCH #08 - QUANTUM LEAP
I've only seen one episode of 24, and it completly failed to hook me.

MATCH #05 - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - I have to go with Buffy. It's my favorite show ever. I watched the series premiere when it aired all the way to the last episode. I've watched B5 up to season 3 on DVD and it is awesome, but it just can't top Buffy, IMO. I just have much more of an attachment to the characters in Buffy. The only thing I liked better about B5 was the continuous storyline. If B5 was up against anything else on the list, it would win.

Here's my own personal votes...

MATCH #01 - - no vote - Ive never seen Twin Peaks and I'm annoyed that Twilight Zone beat one of my favorite shows Stargate SG1.

MATCH #02 - THE AVENGERS - Python is funny, but the Avengers is a classic.

MATCH #03 - STAR TREK - oh please, not even close. one is a real sci fi show with great characters, the other is a soap opera that just happens to take place in space.

MATCH #04 - FARSCAPE - Loved lost in space when I was a kid, but it seems silly now, Farscape is one of the best things Ive seen in sci fi in years.

MATCH #05 - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - This is my second favorite show after Doctor Who.

MATCH #06 - DOCTOR WHO - Hands down, no question.. THE greatest sci fi TV series of all time!! over 700 episodes, 26 seasons. So many ideas from modern sci fi from the Borg to the Matrix was done 20 years before in Doctor Who. it amazes me how many people call themselves science fiction fans and don't know the Doctor.

MATCH #07 - ANGEL - this one is tough, but Angel is great stuff... hey that rhymed.

MATCH #08 - QUANTUM LEAP - even tho I dont understand how it beat Battlestar Galactica

1- Twilight Zone (consistantly well written; TP overstayed its welcome)
2- Monty Python (toughest call)
3- ST: TNG (never was a big fan of TOS)
4- Farscape (LIS started out great but degenerated to silliness)
5- Buffy
6- Dr. Who
7- Six Million Dollar Man (vs Bigfoot episodes= all time classic)
8- 24 (can't miss an episode)
