Shaw Brothers movies - Help Out A Lazy Person
Yeah so I saw KILL BILL and loved it. I'm a moderate kung-fu fan, but by no means have I seen everything and it's hard to tell what's good or bad without renting/buying things at random. I used to have a friend who would tape stuff for me all the time and I got turned on to a lot of kung fu movies that way, but I haven't had a connection like that for a long time. After watching KILL BILL it made me want to experience that stuff again. I might have missed out some movies that I should be "in the know" on.
That KILL BILL/DVDTalk deal of the Shaw Brothers 5-DVD set sounds pretty good, but are these movies the "right" versions to buy? i.e. are they widescreen/subtitled? Are they any good??
Any other recommendations from the Shaw Brothers or similar violent kung-fu movies, I mean the real MUST HAVE DVDs that are widescreen/subtitled. I already own Master Of The Flying Guillotine, Lone Wolf and Cub (1 & 2) and The Streetfighter, they've been some faves since childhood and already have on DVD.
Oh and I'm looking for only Region 1.
Thanks in advance.

If you're only looking for region 1, then you shouldn't post this in the International Forum.
The best Shaw Bros discs are being released by Celestial in region 3. These are the only releases that are consistently letterboxed and subtitled and taken from original vault materials.

I guess, it's oK here, a lot of KungFU heads hang out here, but IMHO it's a good start and a nice price, they're vhs qualities most of them, but for nostalgic reasons, I dig the dubbed editions of SB classics also.
Chang Cheh and Gordon Liu, two piece killer combo!!!

These are some of the recent R3 releases that are very good that I have seen:
Come Drink With Me
Water Margin
36th Chamber of Shaolin
Disciples of the 36th Chamber
Return to the 36th Chamber
Magic Blade
The Delinquent
Shaolin Temple
About 10-20 new ones are being released each month. Many of the classics have yet to be released.

The ones that are "known" tend to be the ones that came to the grindhouses back in the day for one reason or another - and those have almost all been available only in dubs for many years, and dubs make it impossible to truly judge a film.
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is a great place to start - that's an awesome movie. I've also really liked the Magic Blade and the Killer Clans.
But the fact is - we don't really know what's out there yet. People have only been exposed to the tip of the iceberg(and a dubbed tip at that) when it comes to the Shaw Brothers.

Holy smokes, one thousand! Now I can see how my question can appear silly. The only one I'm familiar with is 36th Chamber of Shaolin so I guess I'll start with that. I'll do some research on the web to ge better acquainted with what the Shaw Brothers library has to offer. Thanks for the info guys.

Gotta love the Gordon Liu classic, 'Dirty Ho' just for the name alone.
Instead of buying them in 5 disc sets, here are some cheap ones on their own:
