Its a two disc set you know...
And I quote:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Open Range for 20th January 2004 with a retail price of $29.99. Directed by Kevin Costner Open Range is the powerful story of two men in the old west who fight for justice and honour. The full details on this DVD are yet to be revealed but the press release does have this to say...
"On the must-own, two-disc DVD, audiences will enjoy this sweeping film in DTS 5.1 Digital Surround Sound and discover unique bonus features including a fascinating journey back in time to America’s Open Range, feature film audio commentary with Kevin Costner and much, much more."
We can also confirm that you can expect a 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen transfer.

It's a great movie, I really love the way it looks and plays out. (I see the post four up and am pleased with the feature, how did I miss that before?)

The only thing I didn't like about this movie was the less than perfect ending. I think it should have ended with Kevin walking off, leaving us to wonder if he would return. Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie, especially the shootout. I hope BV pushes Duvall for an Best Supporting Actor nomination, as well as cinematography and sound effects and sound effects editing. Although, in the case of the last three, I'm sure Matrix Revolutions and LOTR:ROTK will be dominating the technical categories.

I saw it in the theater and thought it was a really good movie. The sound in the theater was really good so i think the DTS treatment will work really well for this movie. Duvall was outstanding and Costner and Benning were pretty good as well.
Not your typical western in my opinion--sort of like Unforgiven the way the movie builds up to the climax.

Did they change the cover art for this? I thought it was the cool shot of Costner's back from the poster, now it looks like three floating heads.
edit--yup they did. WHY???

I don't usually hate floating head covers, but that cover is a huge step down from the great theatrical poster. Good movie though. Duvall was Oscar worthy. I'll get it.

How does this movie compare to the likes of Tombstone or Wyatt Earp? I know the plot/story is way different but I mean how is the feel and action of the movie? Is it mainly a dialogue-driven movie, or are there awesome shoot outs and stuff?
