Mixed reviews. In fact, not much better reviews than the earlier adpatation of Geurin's story, When The Sky Falls, which took the Murnau route and changed the names when they couldn't get the rights.

Looking forward to seeing it though. I'm Irish born and raised so I'm quite familiar with the Geurin story.

Plus, Cate Blanchett has an odd hotness about her.

One made Tigerland, the other Pirates Of The Carribean. They're capable of good stuff.

It's probably a decent picture. Perhaps even a good one.
But because I've seen the trailer so many times and know the outcome of veronica's story, I really don't have to see this film.

Blanchett is great, the movie on the other hand is terribly flawed, She IMO so overshadows all the other actors to the point where it becomes very noticeable. The first 40 minutes are edited so tightly that the story can barely breathe and let the viewer digest what or why such events are happening. The use of galiec (sp) cliched music to heighten certain scenes is a highly manipulated move on the filmmakers part. I think the movie is good in that it exposes the masses to Ms. Guerin, but how the film presents it, is overdramtic and formulaic

I'm gonna see it.

I only know about Veronica from the Savatage song "Complaint in the System (Veronica Guerin)" but if the band thought that much of her story to include it on their album, I have to check it out.

Oh, for God's sake.

When will people learn that IREALND HAS MORE THAN BAGPIPES?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Ireland's U2 one of the biggest bands in the world?

Sorry... it's just a terrible thing I constantly notice. "It's not taking place in Ireland unless it's got 'diddly-di' music in the background"...

Movies manipulate. That's what they've done throughout the beggining of cinema. Get over it.

Agreed, I thought "Tigerland" was terrible. I'm not a fan of Schumachers at all. The only two movies I've liked of his were "Falling Down" and "The Client". But I do want to see "Veronica Guerin". Cate Blanchett is good in everything.

sure I agree that movies manipulate viewer response and emotion, but I didn't like the choice of music and how it was used to convey the tragedy of events within the movie, cue the sappy music for viewers to cry (oh please!)... and that's my opinion, so... get over it.

I thought "Phone Booth" was good and "Tigerland" was ok but Schmacher generally sucks.

Bruckheimer makes "successful" movies with lots of money and
explosions but that doesn't make them good ones.

I love Cate Blanchett though.

It's her eyes.

And she is the only reason I will see this. She makes a mediocre/bad movie better than it should be.

I saw it. Cate's great, the movie has some great scenes without really coming together. The less you know about the real story the more confused you'll be in the first 45 minutes of Irish underworld machinations. If you want to lose that confusion, see THE GENERAL (with Brendan Gleeson and Jon Voight) first. That's the story of the Irish gangsters seen in that first part of the movie. It's also a much better film, but that's not going to ruin VERONICA GUERIN or anything.
