Kaurismaki's "Man Without a Past"
Does anyone have this DVD, it's from Columbia Tristar.
I was wondering how the transfer is,
are the subtitles removable?
It doesn't look like there are any extras.
It's kind of expensive, and I would like to know
how the image quality is before I take the plunge.

The subtitles are removable, and the transfer looks very good to me (on a standard 4x3 set). I thought the movie had a rather striking visual style and this appears to be preserved quite nicely on the DVD. Something in the color palete or a filter used... I can't exactly explain it, but you'll notice right away.
Wonderful film, and highly recommended if you haven't seen it before. The quotes on the box are a little misleading; I didn't think it was really "hilarious," which seems like an odd way to describe this movie. It's a near-perfect blend of drama and deadpan humor, and definitely one of the best I've seen this year.

This was one of my favorite films of the past year. Droll, full of surprises and wonderful deadpan performances. I've got the dvd on order, not expected for another 2 weeks, so I can't comment on that.
