Sex and Lucia - pretty good movie

I liked it, the plot is pretty ambiguous in a David Lynch sort of way, you really aren't sure what is real and what is in one of the main character's book that he's writing.

Definately worth a rental.

Also of note are the actresses, Najwa Nimri who had played Nuria in Open Your Eyes (the ex-girlfriend who drove the car into the wall), and the star, Paz Vega, who was also in Almodovar's Talk To Her, not to mention Elena Anaya (the babysitter).

A quick description (as noted by allmovie.com) is that this movie is is a mature film about sex and relationships that is both thoughtful and very hot.

The movie has its moments but it is terribly, terribly confusing at parts (and that's fine, I understand it is intentional).

The story deals with Lucia (who makes great paella) and her boyfriend (a writer). It's a very graphic sex/relationship movie layered with flashbacks that are interwoven with the co-protagonist's imagined fiction. The cinemato-/photo-graphy is very good and has some beautiful shots.

I recommend as a rental.

I had this sitting on my shelf from netflix for weeks thinking i wasn't in the mood for something convoluted and foriegn, and man, I couldn't have been more wrong when I finally put it in last night. An amazing film, with unbelievable performances, and despite many objections, I didn't find it terribly confusing at all. For all the jumping around, it was pretty clear what was what, and everything is answered in the end for the most part. And it just made me realize even more how screwed up America is when it comes to sex and film - just because there's a penis (or two) in it does not make it porn, nor does it even make it smut. Sex and Lucia is on par with anything produced in America in the last five years, hands down....I can not recommend it highly enough...it is a beautiful piece of filmmaking, and I can't wait to check out the other films by Julio Medem, the director. Sadly his last film "lovers of the arctic circle" isn't available on DVD.

Sex and Lucia should have received the same, if not more, attention that Y tu Mama Tambien did....and I would say it is a FAR better film. See it.

I haven't seen this movie, but I have some caps of certain choice scenes, and I must come to the conclusion that PAZ VEGA IS HOT.

...could not have said it any better....in fact not only is Sex and Lucia not a porn (contrary to all the conservative talk in America) it is far better than a lot of the films that were made here the last 5-6 years.

if you are region free Lovers on the arctic circle is available in the UK:

I really, really enjoyed this movie!

As a friend put it: "There was more sex than Lucia."

So, was there a child who was killed by the dog, or was that a part of the book?

In my view, it doesn't really matter what was real or what was imaginary, or if there can even be a line drawn between the two in the context of the movie.

And yes, it's a beautiful, lyrical film (though not quite on par with "Y Tu Mama Tambien") that deserves to be seen by anyone with a taste for the poetically surreal.

If you like the surreal, I assume that you have seen "Open Your Eyes".

Another interesting film is "Tango". It's a very beautiful movie and definately worth a rental. The plot was a little thin, but the movie is still worth watching.
