Matrix Reloaded Freeway Set

Out of curiosity after watching the Freeway Chase extra on the DVD, does anyone know if other movies are going to be using the set, or if its been taken down already? I know a lot of movies re-use sets, and with a huge set like this i'd think it would be used quite often for future freeway scenes.

while I love The Matrix and the Wachowski Brothers ideas in general, they destroyed the set, which IMHO was pretty selfish of them. :-/

I haven't watched that extra yet so does it say the whole thing was a set? My brother-in-law, who lives in Australia, told me that it was shot on a newly constructed but not yet open (at the time) freeway down there.

The entire Freeway was built in Alameda, CA solely for the movie. Considering the size and money put into the set, i would have thought Warner Bros would license it out or leave it for future productions. Oh well.

Peter Jackson also destroyed all the LOTR sets. It's in the contract, when you build something for a film, you have to tear it down at the end, unless the studio specifically asks to have it standing for another film... Like they did with Gone With The Wind, where the Atlanta they burned was a bunch of sets left over from other productions.

It was torn down and if I recall all the usable wood and other such material was donated for housing in mexico I believe.
