Fanfan la Tulipe is set for a release on 12/1/03 and the best news is that it is going to have English subs!!!!!

For the DTS fans......6.1 DTS ES!!!!

...collector's edition is also available!!
...very much looking forward to this release

Edit: ONLY THE CANADIAN VERSION HAS ENGLISH SUBS. IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT THE FRENCH DISCS DO NOT!!

I am surprised you have not heard anything about it....it is yet to be shown in the States but here are a few facts for you:

basically a remake of the classic Fanfan la Tulipe (the one with Gerard Philipe):
http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/dvd.php?id=545

directed by Gérard Krawczyk (Taxi 3).....and it was shown during the Cannes this year.

here's the cover for the new one:
http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/dvd.php?id=9507

trailer could be seen here:
http://www.allocine.fr/webtv/acvisio...on=1&BookMark=

bluntly generalizing: The French Zorro

pro-bassoonist:

Trailer looks great! I have never ordered from Cinestore and could not find an answer about shipping cost through a search. So how much is shipping from them? Who is cheaper Amazon or Cinestore? Thanks.

Any other titles I should get while I am there. They must have english subs though, I only had 3 years of french.

Indy:

I would actually suggest that you avoid Cinestore at this point since they have undergone a few management changes and their shipping is not so steady. HTF had a thread about it...

In general, if you order a couple of movies Cinestore could come cheaper than Amazon.fr (or at least that was the case in the past). Since they merged with Allocine.fr I have not shopped from them. So, my advise would be that you get it from Amazon.fr. Their packages usually come home to Chicago for 6-8 days or Bloomington for about 9-10 days.

As to what else to get: I dont know what else to suggest as I am not sure what genres you prefer. If you let me know I will point out a few titles to you. I mostly buy art films so....
Some of the most recent films that came out (non-art) of course with English subs:

Le Pharmacien Degarde- Vincent Perez/ G. Depardieu
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357
(you could see the trailer at Allocine again)

Ni Pour Ni Contre
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357
(trailer at Allocine)

I would definitely get the upcoming Bon Voyage (with I.Adjani)...but I like her too much so...my opinion is too biased....

Do you have La Haine? Pretty much a classic for Vincent Cassel fans...if you dont you should get it:
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357

if you like Monica Bellucci and Mr.Cassel again then get L'appartement:
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357

if you like more action/adventure then you should perhaps consider CRYING FREEMAN (from Cristoph Gans-Brotherhood of the Wolf)
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357

or you could get Nid De Guepes with Sami Naceri (Taxi) which I am sure you know about
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357

or Deja Mort which I love....
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...962366-1971357

...again....you have to point out to me what you like....otherwise it will be impossible for me to guess and suggest anything else to you.....

cheers!

Thanks for the help and recommendations. I watch everything from art and foreign films to martial arts and anime. i was just looking for some good movies regardless of genre so I thought I would ask. I am looking for some new things not in R1.

BTW, I have L'appartement. Great movie!

Thanks,

Bryon

one of my absolute favorites from the last couple of months is Peau D'ange, Vincent Perez's directorial debut:

http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/tg/...#more-pictures

the disc come in a double clear amaray case with the entire soundtrack provided. SUPERB QUALITY and a great film. Review could be found here:

Bus,

I am almost 100% sure that the extras wont have any subs.

...according to dvdfr.com these are the extras:

DVD VIDÉO
DVD 1 :
Le film
Commentaire audio de Gérard Krawczyk et Vincent Perez
DVD 2 :
Making of
Making of de la bande originale
L'équipe de "Fanfan" ŕ Cannes
Interviews
Bętisier
Galerie de photos

my copy should be here soon!

Meh, I'll stick with the single disc in that case. I plan on ordering that Cyclo/Scent of Green Papaya double pack along with this, so the money saved is worth it to me -- especially after three DDD orders last week...

There was supposed to be an R4 release of this a while back but I was never able to find it.

Does Deja Mort have English subs? Amazon.fr says it does but I thought I read that it doesn't?

...indeed it does not... and btw - and this is coming from an anal retentive guy - the new movie is simply titled "Fanfan" (probably) because the 'other' movie was such a beloved classic in its day... oh, how I remember...mumble mumble (remembers misspent youff)...

. . . . . .

...... hmmnm Hendrik.....perhaps your mind was dimmed (still is) by the beautiful Sophie....back in the days....

...we are talking about the new Fanfan LaTulipe (the remake of the old classic with Gerard Philipe) that was shown during Cannes....not the Sophie Marceau movie

this one: http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/dvd.php?id=9506

...oops!... you're so right!!... I was so wrong!!!... my bad!!!!... why do they come up with such similar-sounding titles?... after all, 'Fanfan' is not exactly an everyday French word... oh well... in any case the review linked by Moon33 ONLY refers to subs pour malentendants... there's nowt about subs anglais...

. . . . . .
