I can understand why the practice still goes on in America. But worldwide, the widescreen television is becoming bigger than it is here. In Britain, the BBC even broadcasts in widescreen.

So why are there so many 4:3 releases of widescreen films still? I've held off on Christie Malry's Own Double Entry because of this.

According to Magna Pacific (they released Capricorn 1 in Australia 4:3), it's because that's the only print the studio would give them.

I suspect it's a ploy to allow the local countries to release cheaper copies of DVDs (C1 is around the 8.95 mark...$6 US) without hurting their US market (where the film might sell for a higher price).

C1 is now around the US$10 mark, but it was around $20 when you could still buy it in Oz for US$6.
