Anyone have: R2 Phantasm Special DVD Boxset Edition?
I was considering the purchase of this from Blackstar. Contains Phantasm I, II & II. I'd like to know if this is censored in any way and if it has any extras.
Thank you!

The current R2 releases of II and III are full frame and, to the best of my knowledge, at least II is cut. However, I may be wrong. I downloaded a version about a month ago that was full frame and it was very noticeable in some scenes that gore was missing. I'm almost positive that in the scene where the priest gets a ball in the head, a LOT of blood spurts out in the uncut version. However, I don't know if the version I saw was a DVD rip.
As for features on the R2 discs, Phantasm II has the theatrical trailer, TV spots, a photo gallery and a Fangoria Angus Scrimm speech from 1989. Phantasm III has the theatrical trailer, photo gallery and a deleted scene (from Phantasm I).

I would wait for better versions. I have Phantasm II & III UK R2, and they are horrible discs. Both have identical inserts that actually belong to the first Phantasm. Both are full screen, non-anamorphic, and very poor transfers and middling audio at best. Completely barebones. Very sad to see, especially after the great R1 Phantasm release.
I'm fan of the series, so I'm willing to put up with these for now. I'd definitely toss them in the trash the minute an anamorphic Dolby 2.0 barebones disc hit the streets.

I'm definitely crossing the UK R2 Phantasm II off of my "may purchase if I run out of other titles to buy" list. (I never want III...ever.)

Actually, DVDude!, I stand corrected. I just checked the back of my cases, and the features you listed are there. I think the quality of these discs is so bad that it has effected my memory of them. I also forgot to mention in my previous post that they are both cut. It had been awhile since I'd seen them uncut so I can't name specifics, but there are a few parts where you can tell they cut away because of gore. They don't seem that differently cut (aside from language) than the US TV cut.

Thanks for the clarification renaldow. Well, although the skimpy extra features are there, the fact that part II is cut means I'm going to cross it off of my list.
I want a loaded R1 release of Phantasm II that is uncut and anamorphic...

Any word on the possible release by Anchor Bay? They would give it the proper treatment IMO. I'd love to know what will be included.
Thanks for the replies! I'll steer clear of the current R2 box set in hopes of a better version.
