Actually a pretty good article. Could have been worse, anyhow.

Yeah pretty good. On another note...would you happen to have K's Choice - Almost Happy? I think you would enjoy it very much...I can't stop listening to it. Also I have been lietening to a lot of Mojave3...I suggest them to you as well if you don't already listen to them.

Another reason I hate "indie rock"

I remember once talking with someone about Japanese music, and they mentioned Melt Banana, how totally pretentious, and worst is, the music wasn't any good either, pretty generic low budget stuff.

More simple to understand

Excellent indie rock = mediocre mainstream rock 10 years ago

Excellent indie dance = Excellent indie dance 10 years ago

Never heard K's Choice. Thanks for the recommendation. I have all the (album) Mojave 3 stuff -- I go through periods where I listen to them a lot.

No idea what you're talking about, but I'm picking up some kind of Indie Dance Time Machine vibe.

You used the word "hate"? What happened to letting the love shine? <3

Gdrlv, I'm making a random decree that you have to go out and pick up the Handsome Family's new cd, Singing Bones. No doubt you will like it.

Do you not remember?

In my love is my hate and in my hate is my love, as I walk on the path of love, the line that separates hate and love is ever thin, there fore as I love I can hate, because of this my love is as strong as my hate and my hate as strong as my love.

Therefore, i am also allowed to hate, a being born of love created to love is also capable of hatred.

"Indie" music, but mostly just the word "Indie" and not the music brings me great anger and sadness, much like divorce, sickness, and crime. That, and Burger King French Fries

Living in more-indie-than-thou Louisville (where people are still coasting on namedropping Slint and Squirrel Bait members), I run up against the indie aesthetes all of the time. I was always confused by the idea of an "indie rock" SOUND, because I always thought that "indie"/"independent" referred to a system of distribution, rather than a unified sound. Much like "punk" was a movement, not a sound. I, apparently, was very wrong in this way of thinking.

Is that like how in Greece there are girls who are boys who like boys who do girls who do boys like their girlswho do girls like their boys?

"Indie rock" Haven't heard that term in a serious fashion in years...

Squirrel Bait? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Is Tewligan's still around? I used to love playing there. The people that hung out at that bar loved music.

I grew up in Amherst MA which, combined with neighboring Northampton, is probably the spawning ground of 80s and 90s indie rock (Mission of Burma, Pixies, Dinosaur, Blake Babies, Lemonheads, Sebadoh etc, they're all from the area...even the Godfathers, Sonic Youth, live there now.) I grew up going to early Dinosaur shows (before they tacked on the "Jr.") and buying obscure Shimmy Disc or Homestead releases. This article cuts a little too close for comfort...

They missed name dropping Creation records and MBV, though. That was what all the cool kids were listening to circa 1989-1991. Also:
Wax Trax
Touch n' Go
SST- the ultimate indie lable
