Anyone bought a Malata 558?
I'm in the market for something like this and this one seems ideal. Plays everything, handles different voltages, slim design -- important since I'll be taking this overseas when I move next year. Anyway, HKFlix started just started carrying some of these.
What do you know about this player?

Get the Philips 727 for about $90. Does it all, and looks great. PQ is excellent. Better construction, too. Do a search on this and on the Toshiba 3900 (not as "region-free"). Lots of info.

this player may end up as a few christmas gifts for family from me, as well as a gift to myself for my bedroom. I already have a modded JVC for my main HT.

this thread has got me interested in the philips 727. are there any playback problems after an hour or so? some cheaply made players freak out after awhile due to heat buildup.

Well, that would be dumb. Most movies are longer than an hour. Anyway, this is made by Philips and has the quality you would expect from them.

yeah, my Apex had heating issues due to the dinky "heat sink" not making contact with the chip. i'm sure other makers have cut corners to make players cheap. that's why i was asking if there were any heat issues with the Philips.

The principle issue with the Philips (and the only reason I wouldn't buy it based on what I've read in the other thread) is there seems to be no way of turning off the multiple angle icon when such a feature is present.
