Snyone caught the commercials for this yet? I'm not sure what to think of it, yet. Kinda looks like a series version of Romeo & Juliet, or even of Crazy/Beautiful. Anyone looking forward to it, or somehow seen it early?

I am definitely looking forward to it but I think FOX is making a big mistake putting it up against MNF and NBC's Las Vegas (which I also think is a programming mistake).

just a bump that it starts tonight. Even though it seems that there's a bit of overacting, and some cheesyness, the chick for the show looks hot at least.

Wow, I wish it was that easy to pick up a gorgeous looking chick. But I guess in the world of Bruckheimer anything is possible

I am extremely disappointed in this show. It doesn't even have a fun cheesy quality. The acting is subpar by EVERYONE. The dialogue is painful to listen to, and you know there is a problem when you can't even make the porn industry entertaining. I cannot even put into words how unfun this show was. I usually can watch anything, but it was just so bland that I doubt I will even give it a second chance.

I thought it was decent. I thought Ron Silver did a pretty good job channeling Al Pacino.

BTW, for those of you "in the know" (and you know who you are!), the following porn stars had cameos last night:

Asia Carrera
Monica Mayhem
Aria
Aurora Snow
Jessica Drake

The posters on the wall in the Golden offices are actual adult movies from Wicked Pictures.

Isn't that pretty much all Ron Silver does? Seems like he's the guy you call when you can't afford Pacino.

I liked the show. It started off a bit slow but then it picked up towards the end. I think this show has a lot of potential, true the romeo juliet thing is there but two powerful families going head to head could make for some interesting tv. Remember when Star Trek Next Generation came out people thought it was bland at first but as it rolled the characters were fleshed out more, this I expect will be the same for this show. I am looking forward to it.

I really liked it. I can't wait for the Christian Conservative groups to slam this show because the porn king is portrayed as the sympathetic good guy and the Law (in the form of the DA) is the bad guy.

The girl looks look a lot like the female Terminator.

Yeah - I caught Asia and Aria.

I noted that Russell Mulcahy (of Highlander fame) directed this pilot.

I thought the new spin on "Romeo and Juliet" was entertaining with some of the funniest melodramatic dialogue heard/spoken in some time on TV.

The guy playing Adam's dad, Michael, (Kevin Anderson) totally gets upstaged by Ron Silver, even though he's a bit more bombastic, arms-flinging-drowning manner.

I'll tune in again.

I'll tune in next week.

Kevin Anderson's character is such a caricature. He's clearly there just to rant and rave against Ron Silver. Why not have him be a real person so we can sympathize with both sides? Who do I side with, the dope or the weasel? Silly.

It was Aria, NOT Aria Giovanni...she was on the table dancing with Asia Carrera and Monica Mayhem. Aurora Snow was one of the girls dancing in the club, and Jessica Drake was in the office on the couch in the yellow dress talking with Ron Silver about doing a Girl/Girl scene.

Anyone else who watches Real World think the porn daughter seemed like a combination of 1/3 Rachel from Back to New York and 2/3 Julie (I'm guessing on this name, but she was the Mormon) from New Orleans. For part of the time I could have swore that it really was Julie.

Jewel is much prettier than Julie (Real World).

It wasn't really her looks that got me mixed up, it was more of her attitude and voice mannerisms than anything else. I do a lot of multi-tasking and was actually doing some homework while watching, so I pay much more attention to the dialogue than the visuals.

I liked this show. I liked the kids...I actually really liked that they were cheesy with each other, it was sweet and believable. As for the parents, they are making his father (The DA) a little too easy to hate. I mean, the guy has no redeemable qualities AT ALL...he's just an a**hole ALL the time! So I think they should make him a slightly more sympathetic character. I definitely think it has great cheese/drama/sex/funny potential...I'm watching!

Can't believe how much Rachel Ticotin has aged since Total Recall.

Also, it was nice to see Laura Leighton (Sydney on Melrose Place) on TV again, though she needs to stop denying herself the ocassional cheeseburger.

Agreed on both counts.

Also good to see Law & Order alum Richard Brooks, albeit in a rather small role.

I think they can't make the DA too likable. If their personalities were even ambiguous (neither likable nor dislikable), then the scales would be easily tipped in favor of the guy definitely have nothing to do with pornography and more specifically child pornography. Giving Silver (I'll get the names after watching the show more) a little bit of a character advantage evens the scales, IMO. Makes it a semi-hero vs. an anti-hero.

I still wonder where this show is going though. How long can the DA and Porn King tangle? How long will the Romeo and Juliet storyline carry on?

Spooky
10-21-03, 02:38 PM
Well, the show bombed in the ratings last night...finishing fourth with a 4.6 or 4.7 share... the only networks it beat were WB and UPN.

So unless this show picks up some viewers, it will probably be gone before Christmas...

The GOOD news is Joe Millionare did just as bad...so if that will go away too, I guess that's a fair trade!

Red Dog
10-21-03, 02:39 PM
After looking at the ratings, I don't expect a long life for Skin. It had the lowest rating in 4 years for a season premiere of a FOX Monday Show - 4.5. That is even lower than last year's Girl's Club which lasted 2 episodes. Joe Millionaire was way down as well.
fox's monday premieres since fall 2000
(metered market rating/share)
12.7/17 (joe millionaire: 1/6/03)
10.5/14 (ally mcbeal: 10/23/00)
10.4/15 (boston public: 10/23/00)
9.5/13 (boston public: 10/29/01)
8.3/11 (ally mcbeal: 10/29/01)
7.9/11 (boston public: 10/21/02)
7.8/12 (mr. personality: 4/21/03)
6.7/10 (the american embassy: 3/11/02)
6.5/9 (married by america: 3/3/03)
5.2/7 (joe millionaire: 10/20/03)
5.1/7 (girls club: 10/21/02)
4.9/8 (anything for love: 6/16/03)
4.5/6 (skin: 10/20/03)

Having a season premiere up against MNF couldn't have been too good for it. Monday's during football season are hell for anything that isn't monday night football. I liked what Fox was doing with it's schedule due to the playoffs (very late season premiers compared to the rest of the pack) - though, it was their own channel airing the playoffs. I wish more shows would have later starts just to deal with MNF. Or at least put shows there that are tried and true or shows they want to tank. I liked Skin last night and I like Las Vegas, neither of which are doing very well. :(

Las Vegas is doing fine - NBC already placed a full season order.

I had a feeling this would happen to Skin. The target audience is the same as Las Vegas's and MNF. The late start (giving Las Vegas a big head start) really hurt this show IMO.

Fox has been heavily promoting this show all through the baseball playoffs (which had huge ratings) , so if this is the best they can draw, give it less than a month. Anyone remember American Embassy?

I really think the playoffs will hurt a lot of Fox shows. I hate baseball and basically haven't watched Fox for quite a few weeks now. If I wasn't such a TV whore, I wouldn't even know about Skin or Joe Millionaire premiering last night. I really don't even know what Skin is about, I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. I already picked up so many new shows that already premiered that I'm really not that excited about adding any more to my weekly viewing list. Plus Skin is opposite Vegas which I already started watching too.

I thought the first episode was so-so. I like the premise of the show, but I think they tried to progress the storyline way too much for a pilot episode.

The slo-mo CGI (I assume it was CGI) key sequence on the rooftop was lame. Didn't Fastlane get canceled?

I thought it was pretty lame how the District Attorney is gunning for the pornographer so badly. I mean, geez, at least let some other stuff develop before you start wire tapping his ass and all that other stuff.

The Rome and Juliet thing is okay, but I was rolling my eyes at how quickly Jewel let herself be deflowered. She's waiting to be in love and gives it up after knowing the guy for like a week?

I'll watch a couple more episodes before I decide whether or not to continue. This timeslot is already packed with Monday Night Football and Las Vegas.

I got around to watching it last night and thought it was pretty good. The plot did seem to race along pretty fast paced though - seems like they should have slowed it down and taken some more time to develop deeper relationships between the characters.

This show is great if you like extreme overacting and cliched plot lines. I was laughing at moments that were not meant to induce laughter. That's never a good sign. I might give it one more chance, but that's a big "might."

so uh... did anyone watch last night besides me? :)

i'm still interested.. could be that i'm just blinded by jewel's hotness, but i think i actually like the show.. interesting twist with the DA cheating with the other chick...

Patman
10-28-03, 11:27 AM
Saw that twist coming from a mile away. I'm not as high on this show after 2 episodes so far, but we'll see if they can sustain the cat-n-mouse games after the election.

Adam and Jewel's relationship isn't as compelling as I had hoped.

Skin dropped to a 3.7 rating last night.
My guess is it will be gone before Thanksgiving.

My suggestion, get it out of that MNF slot, add some more "Skin", move 24 back to 8pm on Tuesdays, and put Skin on at 9pm.

That would work for me. Personally, I think the best strategy for FOX is to move O.C. to Monday at 8. It is the perfect lead-in for SKIN.

I thought the second episode was better than the first, but I still am not too happy overall with the show. Goldman is just too clean so far. I highly doubt that chick is getting rejected from porn. I thought they were going to find her with fake ID's or something, but I guess I was completely off-base with that.

The young couple is way too schmaltzy, which I know that's how new couples can be, but I get nauseous watching them. Yes, she is hot, but that storyline really doesn't do anything for me.

amen to that! and she's only 19! hope she starts getting some movie roles.. she hasn't done much so far:

Olivia Wilde

Girl Next Door, The (2004) .... Whitney Parker
"Skin" (2003) TV Series .... Jewel Goldman

her name would work well in porn. :)

Where it is, it is quickly dying. It's not like MNF was stellar this week...

Since Fox was quick to give the 'encore' spot today to 24 at the last second this week, it sounds like the fat lady is beginning to gargle...

That being said, given you all talking about how hot the chick is, I hope to catch an encore myself. It's just a little harddrive space. ;)

I am glad, however, that a couple of my favorites, Las Vegas and Karen Sisco are doing well.

It was everyone flocking to view the Radio Music Awards! rotfl

I can't find Las Vegas numbers for the previous week. I see that on Oct. 13th, " 'Las Vegas rolled a 7.0/11 for NBC."

My editorial comment: Considering the audience, that isn't bad for being against both MNF and game 4 of the ALCS.

This is higher than the 6.6/10 that the RMAs received Monday on NBC.

Oh... errr... back on topic. This just shows how bad Skin is doing at pulling it's audience, esp. given the saturation of ads (perhaps there is backlash?). I know that the sound-effected Skin web advertisements I have seen are annoying as all get out!

Spoke to my "new friend" at the local Fox affiliate Programming department, and asked her how long she thought Skin would be on. Her response was to the effect of "Well, it would be pretty late for them to notify us about pulling it on Monday!"

She (unofficially) doesn't expect it to last the month of November, in spite of the continuation to push it (still running radio ads, etc. locally).
