Did Anyone Find Phantom of the Opera?

Not sure if it should get its own thread, but I was just wondering if anyone was lucky enough to find the UE of Phantom of the Opera. I was anticipating this release as much as Family Guy Volume 2, but after going to five stores including Best Buy, Circuit City, and FYE, I came up empty and found no indication of it being out. May just because my city sucks, but did anyone find it?

upsetting news. I'm checking out my stores in about an hour, with hopefully better results. this and Russian Ark are the only 2 dvds that I did not order on-line. and I just found out my on-line orders wont arrive until the end of the week.

If I lose out at shopping locally today....my day is screwed.

I called BB just to see if maybe the release got pushed back, but they put me on hold and transferred me (for some reason) and they ended up disconnecting me.

no luck here at all...just got back from the worst dvd shopping day in my 3 years of collecting. allow me to bitch. I've been shopping locally for many titles over the last few years and now find that things are changing for the worst. I've had to increase my on-line orders by 75% because of my lack of faith in retailers getting product on the shelf when they are supposed to. this week...I thought I was doing it right by only picking up a few at BB and ordering the rest on-line. now I find that all my orders have been somewhat delayed and wont arrive till the end of the week....if then. so for the first time....I have a big fat nothing on release day. usually...my on-line orders arrive within 24 to 48 hours....this is the first week it's taken longer....I can live with that. at least I know they are arriving. from here on out...maybe 1 or 2 dvds locally...is all I will buy. from now on...8 out of 10 dvds a week will be ordered. I really dont care how much more money I spend....just give me the damn dvd!!!!

o.k., maybe it's just delayed a little. I just ordered mine and it says it wont ship for about 7 to 10 days. I feel better just knowing it was ordered. same with The Shunned House. so much for the Phantom film party tonight!!

Where'd you order yours from, Wrencher? I'm gonna have to order it since I just want the thing asap. That's why I didn't order it in the first place; I thought it'd take too long to get here. I bet we have the same problem next month with the Lon Chaney Collection.

When I asked for it at DDD today I was told they'd already sold out of it. I would never look for something like this at a Best Buy -type store because, in their eyes, nobody would ever buy a silent movie. Maybe Tower Records would have it.

I just saw the silent double feature THE SHEIK/SON OF THE SHEIK at both Tower and Best Buy, and have seen the older PHANTOM releases there as well.

Well I just gave in and just ordered it from BB.com. It said that it had it at my local store so I called and of course, they didn't have it regardless of what it said on the site. I asked when they'd be getting it in and he said just order it from the site so whatever.

Well, that's definitely true. However, the same could be said about the Robert Englund version.

In my opinion, the only great one is the Lon Chaney edition. The Hammer one from 1962 (not yet on DVD) is probably the 2nd best:

I'm not a HUGE fan of the Universal remake:

but it's not bad.

In my opinion, ALL the other versions are at various levels of suck.

That must tell you something. I may just go to my local BB & annoy the blueshirts by asking about "Phantom of the Opera" with Lon Chaney.

Well, I love it how when you confront them with something they can't answer, they'll just "transfer you" aka disconnect you. I asked about it and the girl was like, "Uh, I'm gonna transfer you to the music department." I was like HUH?

As for the Universal version, it's ok, but it's pretty dull at various points. Interesting take on the story, but I prefer Chaney's just because of how cool he looks and how faithful it stays to the original story.
