Russian Dogville DVD? How to order

I recently found a DVD of Lars von Trier's Dogville at the russian e-tailer ozon.ru. As I don't read russian could anyone give me information on this release and general info on reliable e-tailers for russian dvds. I'd very much like to see this film but do not want to get burned or wait months.

I would make a very bold assumption that this is a Russian bootleg....I would expect that the dvd will come first in Denmark hence...look at dvdoo.com.

...again just an assumption.....

I don't know why someone would automatically assume it's a bootleg just because it doesn't come out in its country of origin first. I think it very well could be legit. C'mon, anyone order a DVD from russia before?

Several other reliable Russian e-tailers list this (with the same cover art to boot) so I very much doubt it's a bootleg. Incidentally the Danish release is November 18 but dvdoo hasn't made it available for pre-order yet.

You can't order it until this Friday though. I've only bought one disc from them but all went well and I received the disc promptly.

2.35:1 is the correct ratio so either Ozon is wrong or the disc is pan-and-scan. It is most definitely not a 1.33:1 film. For what it's worth these guys have it listed as "4:3" so it might not be a mistake on Ozon's part. Personally I'd hold off the Danish release anyway since it's supposed to be a two-disc SE.

It depends upon where you are. I didn't really pay attention but I think I received it in less than a week. I believe it was sent airmail.

http://pub125.ezboard.com/fcriterion...art=21&stop=36

These came from a poster at the Criterion boards so they're not official, but he has proved a reliable source in the past. Just don't consider these fixed in stone:

Disc 1
- Dogville in 2.35:1 (16x9) / 5.1 surround
- Commentary on selected scenes by Lars von Trier and Anthony Dod Mantle (in English)
- Subtitles: Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish

Disc 2
- Dogville Confessions by Sami Saif (52 minutes; film is either mostly or entirely in English)
- Trier, Kidman og Cannes (Danish TV doc)
- Confession Booth Confessions (17 minutes)
- Interviews with Kidman (Australian and Danish)
- Interview with Stellan Skarsgård (Swedish)
- Interview with assistant director Anders Refn (Danish)
- Interview with producer Vibeke Windeløv (Danish)
- Interview with Lars von Trier (May 20 and May 23 in Cannes)
- Press interview at Cannes (Trier with the cast)
- Trailers
- Experimental footage (concept design and test film with Danish actors Sidsel Knudsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas; with English commentary by Trier and Mantle)
- Conceptual poster design (8 posters to illustrate how the different ideas about the poster design were; accompanied by English text explaining each poster)
- Extra material will not be subtitled.

MSRP is 199 kroner (about $30) -- more than the Russian edition (which is going for $21 at DVD100.ru). But then it looks to me like the Russian edition will be bare-bones.

Somebody who knows French needs to help me out here. Is the two-disc set limited to just 5,000 copies? It certainly reads that way to me but that sounds way too limited.

THAT'S CRAZY

And the really sad thing is by the time we know for sure whether or not this set has compulsory French subtitles (=no sale) it'll probably be too late to get a copy. :(((((((( It's not that terrible, since it looks like the Danish edition will be pretty much the same thing, but I do like that packaging.

...erm... it appears the French set will NOT have "compulsory" French subtitles, since it ALSO features English and Danish subs - that is, if the info given by dvdrama is correct...

...and yes, the limited edition will consist of 5000 copies only (nothing unusual or "crazy" about that)...

I was more concerned about the extra material on disc two. Sorry if that wasn't clear. It would be rather illogical to use compulsory subtitles for the extras given that the subtitles on the movie itself won't be, but I've seen stranger things.

5,000 seems pretty small. Maybe it's not, I dunno. But as far as I'm concerned limited editions are inherently crazy, especially when they're the only way to get (most of) the special features.

Dan Average : ...from the info on the dvdrama site : "Trois heures trente environ de suppléments seront disponible sur l'édition collector. Chacun d'entre eux sera sous-titré au choix en français, anglais ou danois. Tous seront en 4/3 sauf le making-of "Confessions…" en 16/9." - in (approximate) English that means: "Three-and-a-half hours of supplements will be available on the CE. Each of those will have OPTIONAL FRENCH, ENGLISH, OR DANISH SUBTITLES. All will be 4/3, except "Confessions...", which will be 16/9."

Some Russian copies have already surfaced on eBay, but their prices are going so high right now. I don't think that disc is worth that much.

Any word on when Lions Gate will release this thing in the theaters?

I want to see it, but not that badly.
