Today's CDs (9/6)

I wouldn't normally start another T-CDs thread so soon after another, but you'll see why I did in a minute.

Drove back from my hometown tonight, took the following with me:
Deerhoof, Apple 'O
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fever to Tell
(both to keep me awake)
Steve Burns, Songs for Dustmites
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Take Them On On Your Own
(to review)

Get back to school and have this waiting for me:
The Rapture, Echoes
(my most anticipated album of the year)

QoTD: What is/was yr most anticipated album of the year?

-edit to add-
The Notwist, Neon Golden
Somehow I forgot this one. Great, great album.

The Verve, A Northern Soul
The Strokes Is this it?
Wu-Tang Clan Enter the Wu
Four Tet, Pause

My most anticipated album was Radiohead, Hail to the Thief.
Most anticipated albums for the rest of year are probably the new A Perfect Circle and the DVD-A of REM, New Adventures in Hi-Fi

Fountains of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Couldn't Stand the Weather
V/A - Mas Cafe Cubana
Diana Krall - Love Scenes
Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon

QOTD: Considering that it was the one and only album I bought on the day of release, I guess the Jayhawks' Rainy Day Music. I was really looking forward to the FoW, too, which I finally got recently and am listening to the first time. (Good stuff so far.) I'm not sure there's any album coming up, save for the R.E.M. best-of (along with the requisite bonus CD of rarities) that I'll get immediately for the rest of the year.

X-Press 2 "Muzikizum" - the David Byrne song "Lazy" makes me shake the shimmy.

CD-R mix of mine featuring the Chems, Daft Punk, Lionrock, Mutiny UK, Inland Knights and others.

DANCE OF DEATH by IRON MAIDEN

I broke my ban on buying new CD's today, and went out and bought the new Iron Maiden album. Great album IMO.

Next will be the new live Rush in Rio 3 CD disc due out in Oct., after that, it will be a very long time before I ever buy a new CD again(years), so I must suck up the moment for now.

From home:
The Clientele "Suburban Light"
Destroyer "Streethawk: A Seduction"
Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians "Perspex Island"
Mojave 3 "Excuses for Travelers"
R.E.M. "Eponymous"
John Vanderslice "Life and Death of an American Fourtracker"
Tom Waits "Closing Time"

From a lunch trip to Tower:
Beulah "Yoko"
David Byrne "Lead Us Not Into Temptation"
Iron & Wine "The Sea & the Rhythm"
My Morning Jacket "It Still Moves"

To buy later because Tower is too expensive:
Frank Black and the Catholics "Show Me Your Tears"
Quasi "Hot *****"
Spiritualized "Amazing Grace"

AoTD: I've looked forward to tons of CD's this year; everyone is putting out new albums! For the most part, I've been pleased with most of the releases. However, the biggest let down I've had all year is the new Fountains of Wayne album...I loved the first album, and Utopia Parkway was decent, but I just couldn't get into the new one...too over the top for me, although "Haley's Waitress" is one of my favorite songs of the year.

Brutal Youth - Elvis Costello
The Sea & The Rythym - Iron and Wine

That's it. I was too busy at work today to listen to anything.

I did just pick up the new batch of Elvis Costello reissues on the way home, but I probably won't get a chance to listen to them until tomorrow.

AotD: "Welcome Interstate Managers" by Fountains of Wayne and "North" by Elvis Costello. "Welcome Interstate Managers" definitely lived up to my high expectations. I won't know about "North" until it's released on the 23rd.

Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne
Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience
V/A - Afro-Latino
Old 97's - Fight Songs
V/A - Jazz For When You're Alone

You know, I pull out the Gin Blossoms album about once a year, and every time I'm reminded what a great and melancholy pop album that is, and how much I would have liked to hear Doug Hopkins write more songs.
