I wish that... (martial arts-related)
A company came along in the fashion of Criterion and bought up the rights to a couple big martial arts films and then released perfect editions of these movies -- correct aspect ratio, original language, English subtitles, great transfer.
Maybe start with Fist of Legend or Drunken Master II. Then they could slowly expand their catalog every year, buying up the licensing rights to good martial arts movies that deserve "definitive" releases.
Could never happen, right?

Hong Kong Legends IS the Criterion of kung fu films. Excellent PQ and Sound. Commentaries and extras. Of course, not all of their films are the greatest films and even sometimes they make faux paus with regards to aspect ratios, etc. Even Criterion has those problems too.

I used to buy them from Bensonsworld.co.uk but about 6 months ago switched to buying them direct from HKL's web site. http://www.hongkonglegends.co.uk/
btw, they have a great '3 for $22uk' right now. Thats like $11.75 each.

Although, I'm now in the market for a new DVD player that does correct PAL -> NTSC conversion. I thought when I bought it oh-so-long ago that having the ability to play either PAL or NTSC, region-free, would be sufficient.
