I guess its all over for Smash Mouth
Their new album and single went nowhere. The album never cracked the Top 50, and that's a surprise considering their last album, "Astro Lounge," debuted at #9 in 1999 (during or before the heavy rotation of their hit single "All Star").
Their new single, You Are My Number One, was co-written by Neil Diamond. I like it a lot, but I never hear it on the radio. I guess the kids are done with fluffy pop at the moment. Reminds me of how Tone Loc, Young M.C., MC Hammer, and The Digital Underground lost their music careers in the late 1980's/early 1990's due to "more serious" rap hitting the scene.

It was over for them a long time ago. They just keep re-writing the same song over and over again. And that overplayed single that showed up in SHREK totally killed the movie for me.

At least they knew they were a "flash in the pan" and capitalized on it (in a big way) while they still could. As much as I dislike them and their music I have to give them kudos for that.

I can't believe I'm about to say this... "Walking on the Sun" was such a stinkin' catchy song. They picked a GREAT cover in "Can't Get Enough of You". When I think about bands like Nickelback being on the radio I would rather hear 1,000 Smashmouths with a sense of fun and carefree attitude. Radio sucks beyond all measure and it's not because of Smashmouth.

Hey, I don't care whether or not Smashmouth ever records another song, but I don't think they ever crossed into "annoying" territory for me.

Now that the thread sentiment is shifting I will admit to liking Smashmouth more than most things I hear on radio.
I'm a fan of keyboards and the inclusion was a bright spot for me, especially on "Walking in the Sun".

I'm joining the latest club. I'm not interested in them doing anything ever again, but I am happy to own Fush Yu Mang and I still find people that hear me playing it are pleasantly surprised to hear what the other songs sounded like.

If you want novelty keyboards try Pianosaurus.
A delightful curiosity during the serene '80s, Pianosaurus played juvenile pop songs on — what else? — rinky-dink pianos, plastic horns, and a full array of children's toys. Bandmates Alex Garvin, Bianca "Flystrip" Miller, and Steve Dansiger came together in New York State in the early '80s, and self-released their first two albums, both recorded live and issued in 1985. Two years later, Rounder Records released Pianosaurus' proper debut, Groovy Neighborhood, produced by Peter Holsapple (of the db's) and featuring covers of Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker. In 1988, the trio appeared in Francis Ford Coppola's New York Stories, guesting on the soundtrack as well, and were ready to release their second album, Back to School, when Garvin left the band (apparently under mental strain). Tragically, the LP remains unissued.
