The UnOffical Fall 2003 Cancelled or On Hiatus Network Programming - Predictions
Please predict the first regular network program for each network that will be cancelled or placed on (permanent) hiatus and maybe a small blurb as to your reasoning.
If you are the person most correct in your prognostication of network programming demise- your prize - eternal smug satisfaction that you are smarter than the network execs and the undying admiration of anonymous Internet users and posters of this site

TV Guide Fall 2003 TV Schedule Grid
Fox: Tru Calling - Thursday at 8pm is tough .... last season of Friends and Survivor should soak up a lot of the audience. Close second would be American Juniors - I am surprised this made the lineup as it did poorly the first time and will be a weak lead in to 24. It is merely holding the slot for American Idol so would be an easy candidate for "unexpected" hiatus.
NBC: Whoopi. not even close. The promos are not funny. The topical jokes i.e. saddam's defense minister are a sign of desperation. This may not last two weeks. I am not even going to hedge on this one. Whoopi is 1st to go for all networks.
ABC: This one is tough ABC has got IMO a lot of shows that are dogs. I will say Threat Matrix again because of the Thursday curse but LA Dragnet could be a contender as the Saturday timeslot and wholesale change in cast, format and style does not bode well.
CBS: very stable lineup. no obvious candidates to me. I don't think the Wednesday lineup of newsmag, two comedies and a quirky drama is a good fit. Cold Case may disappoint but I guess I will go with Hack simply because of the horrid time slot.

I agree with prett much everything you said.
Fox: Tru Calling. A genre show going up against two of the biggest mainstream hits on TV doesn't have a chance plus it doesn't start until a month into the season I believe. I don't think all the Buffy and Eliza fans will be able to save it.
Any of the shows on the Friday lineup are all a good possiblity.
ABC: Threat Matrix: Same as Tru Calling. These types of shows don't get ratings where ever you put them.
Others that have a good chance are 10-8, this show just looks awful, and maybe Karen Sisco, it's going up against a ratings monster in Law and Order and I think only one will survive between KS and Brotherhoos of Poland, NH which is on CBS.
NBC: Whoopi. Just watch one of NBC's ads for it and that will explain why.
CBS: Joan of Arcadia would be my guess. It hust looks like the one that will have a hard time, plus it's going against Miss Match.
I think Cold Case will be a hit. It'll give the L&O:CI fans something to watch before that comes on plus bring in CSI and Without A Trace's audience since JB is behind all of them. American Dreams and 10-8 are the only competion for it to start off with since The Simpsons don't start until November.

ABC: Yeah, Threat Matrix is screwed. Survivor, Friends and WWE Smackdown, all established shows with established fan bases. The majority of people that watch this show will be the "tape it as I watch my favourite" type.
CBS: Brotherhood of Poland, N.H. is going down. Sure, it only has one show competing with it, but that one show is Law & Order. That, combined with a rather strange sounding and lengthy show title spell doom.
NBC: Wow, their schedule is rife with potential failures. I'm going to break with the first 2 poster's predictions and go with Las Vegas. Up against Monday Night Football and Everybody Loves Raymond, I just don't see it being able to syphon away viewers. Whoopi is a close second.
Fox: Tru Calling. Just as has been pointed out above, it's up against some solid ratings juggernauts. Following closely is the very unfunny looking "A Minute With Stan Hooper"
UPN: "The Mullets." Possibly the worst show of all the fall schedule. It was placed well on the schedule, I guess... the only ratings threat in that time period is 24, and I figure that fans of 24 are not going to desert it to watch this moronic piece of tripe. However, the show looks SO bad, that I don't see anyone deserting any of the other shows to watch it.

Gotta vote for Boston Public on Friday. I am betting they moved it there just so they could have an excuse to get rid of it. Nevermind the fact that it got old quite a while ago.
And I think the Tru Calling thing was a rumor, especially since they keep running promos every 3rd commercial break.

Didn't Tru Calling already get pushed back to mid-season so they could recast and retool the show (because it wasn't so hot)

If Fox had a brain they would've let Tru Calling sit in the pre-24 timeslot until Idol returns. Then if they moved it to one of the hell slots at least it might bring SOME sort of audience with it. Anyway, my picks are:
ABC: Threat Matrix
No big names, a premise that feels too familiar, and a death slot.
CBS: The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H.
This was a tough call, but it's the blandest-sounding show and has tough competition.
NBC: Whoopi
I really didn't want to pick this because it's such a cliche pick, but it just reeks of the same stink as the starring vehicles for Emeril, Nathan Lane (Charlie Lawrence, ), Michael Richards, John Goodman (Normal Ohio), and Bette Midler.
FOX: Skin
Tru Calling will probably stick it out a bit longer just because they have nothing else to fill that timeslot. Skin just seems like it won't appeal to anyone... the more sensitive types will be turned off by the porn theme, and those who are okay with porn will find it too tame.
WB: Tarzan
Just looks bad.

I would almost agree with you regarding Skin except for the fact that Jerry Brockheimer is producing this show. By virtue of that, this will get some leadway and time i.e. Fastlane last year with McG. The concept is terrible and should have been a two hour movie. I can't see how they are going to fill a *whole* season let alone two.
Tarzan could be smallville or end up like birds of prey so I dunno.
