"Felicity" - Worth A Blind Buy?

I've never seen it, but it looks kinda Dawson's Creek-ish...

Can someone fill me in on it a bit, please?

Thanks

My girlfriend loves the first and last seasons of this show, but it gets on my nerves to no end. Try to catch it on WE (Women's Entertainment) if you are that interested in it. So, in other words, try to catch it on TV before you blind buy it. It's slow, quiet, and incredibly irritating and addictive.

Is it more of a women's show then?

No, I don't think it's a "women's" show. It's a very well written show and I think if you haven't seen any of it, you should get it. If you watch Alias you'll get an idea of his style (jj abrams). Yeah, it's a completely different show, but I see things in Alias all the time that remind me of Felicity. Even cast members.

I wonder if I'd get more of a kick out of this show after watching Alias and imagining it as "Weiss Goes to College."

It's not absurd to make this stretch. On the Alias commentary they mention Felecity about a million times.

I would say Felecity is DEFINITELY a "girl's/chick" show. My girlfriend watched it & I just couldn't stand the show & found the characters insanely annoying. If you like teen melodrama than I guess it's a good blind buy. The show doesn't reinvent the wheel, it's a teen melodrama, you know what you are in for.

As someone who was coerced into having to view this initially upon the release of the season 1 boxset I must politely yet completely disagree with Felicity being labelled a "Girl's/Chick" show. As a virulent heterosexual male who enjoys quality television regardless of it's supposed target demographic I've actually found that the tremendously naturalistic writing style of creator J.J. Abrams keeps what in theory could be a female targeted show anything but. Just check out the "Twilight Zone" homage episode from the Season 2 for an example of the myriad ways this show far surpasses anything dreamed up compared to most TV geared toward this age group. Anyone recollecting their college days or still in the midst of them will I believe find much to relate to and admire here. From the top-notch performances to the exceptionally detailed minor characters who are treated with just as much respect as the leads and are not utilized as mere filler or comic foils. Sessa17 is correct in that the show doesn't reinvent the wheel, and yes, it's a teen melodrama, but one of the most finely crafted I've seen. A wonderful ensamble cast and a show I highly recommend.

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons but then grew tired of the whole Felicity/Ben/Noel triangle. I really enjoyed Amanda Forman as Meghan...she was great.

Buena Vista made a huge mistake in the season two DVD since the soundtrack offered should be dolby digital 2.0. However, they listed dolby digital 5.1 as a special feature for the dvd boxset. I feel cheated!!

Screwup on the packaging aside, IMHO your not missing much considering the show is almost entirely dialouge driven. I'm not sure how much of a difference if any this would make considering were speaking of Felicity here and not Alias/24. Of course there's always the Dolby Pro Logic II etc. workaround if this option is available to you.
