Question about the end of Dr strangelove

What is it that the ambassador pulls out at the very end of the film; before total destruction?

Diva is right. It is a spy camera. After all that hullabaloo over letting a Russian into the war room, he takes the opportunity to take spy photos (even though they're now useless).

Hilarious to watch. Boring to describe.

Have to agree it's a graet movie in it's own right but the scene with the Russian ambassador with the spy camera was pointess I wonder why Kubrick left that scene in?

Pointless? I think it just further reinforces the level of insanity the two sides had reached during the cold war. Even after they had just managed to "destroy" the world, they were still fighting.

Yeah, the scene isn't pointless, what the guy's doing is pointless. Which is... well... the point.

there is also a huge commotion earlier from Scott about letting the russian into the room (he'll see the big board!) and at one point i belief Scott does claim he was taking a picture or something. the situation is defused and the end shows that he was spying.

Damn the Koobster cooked up a clunker with this one. Goin through my Kooby box set right now...just finished 2001...see my other thread for questions/impressions. Can wait to get to The Shining Oh and I totally skipped over Lolita! looks outright old and dumb! Black and white movies = meh.

So, do young people who haven't lived through the Cold War just not get this movie?

I.e. The Nintendo Generation vs. Strangelove?

Fret not, this joker is not representative of all youngsters. I'm 19, and to paraphrase Mariel Hemingway in Manhattan, I am aware of cultural events pre-Mario.

Dr. Strangelove is a riot, btw. And I actually just rewatched Lolita today, a more underrated comedy, Isamu, please don't let the black and white put you off - some movies look even better that way.
