Das fünfte Element R2 Vs. Fifth Element Superbit
I had heard that the R2 is just as good, if not better than the R1 Superbit. I had the R1 which was fantastic but the R2 has so many extra features as well as 6.1 DTS-ES sound. Has anyone or does anyone have a copy of this? If so, opinions???

I have both. Audio and video wise the R1 superbit is better. The video is definately a lot better than on the R2 German version. I don't have a 6.1 setup and I don't if that's the reason but the R1 superbit sounds better to me than the R2 German.
Extras wise the R2 German winds hands down but note that atleast one of the extras is dubbed in German.
There might also be a new 2-disc DTS version coming out in the UK in November. That might be worth waiting for.

I agree. The R1 Superbit both looks and sounds better. If you can watch the German disc in a native PAL display (without converting to NTSC) the increase in resolution is nice, and overall it looks pretty good, but there is quite a lot of visible print dirt in the opening scenes which is completely absent on the Superbit. Its colors also look just a tad flatter on the whole.
The DTS track on the German disc is officially coded for 6.1, but that means nothing in practice. The mix seems to have a lot less aggressive surround activity than the SuperBit.
The German disc's prime selling point would be the supplements. Most of them are very EPK and promotional in nature, almost all of which I'm sure were aired on European television first. If you're looking for something in-depth or eye-opening, you won't find it. But some of them are pretty interesting or fun.
I'm a fan of the movie and am glad I bought the German disc, but if all you're looking for is the best presentation, that would be the R1 SuperBit.
