What happened to Quantum Leap?

I thought sure I saw in 2002 that Quantum Leap was coming out in 2003 - whatever happened to that?

Yeah, I saw the same thing. I've been waiting and waiting to replace all of my nine (I think) official releases and all of my 8-hour tapes.

I have all but three episodes on tape. Sadly, they're from syndication so there are cuts. The most noticeable to me is one from the Lee Harvey Oswald ep where the Russian commander is talking about how his father made him stand in the snow.

Any news would be great.

What happened to quantum leap?

It got canceled sometime ago. I think the series ender was him leaping into some Sci Fi show and had to take the role as captain or something.

I never did buy that episode because they broke the rules and leaped him into a person outside his lifetime.

But I would buy all the seasons of this great show.

I think I read somwhere that Paramount had second thaughts due to internal budget cuts or something.

This was suppose to come out around the same time along with Emergency, Magnum PI, and The Rockford Files

Doesn't Quantum Leap belong to Universal?

I don't know who owns it, but this has been and on and off again title from day one and it pisses me off. They come out and say it is comin', then later on, nothing comes out...Repeat over and over.
It pisses me over.

Bring it... Bring it... Bring it!!! I love this show. This and Sledge Hammer are the two shows I most want to see make it to DVD.

What happened? One word: Universal.

For years now, I've been amazed at some of the bone-headed decisions by this studio. They go through the trouble of putting out a press release of major TV release schedule, get everyone excited about the 10 or so titles coming out, and then... crickets.

Makr me down as another that would love season sets. The studios need to pull there heads out of their asses and start releasing these great shows(Sliders included).

If they wait any longer people will lose interest and then their goes their precious little profit margin. It amazes me of the monumental ignorance the studios have with the DVD media.

You are looking at the glass as half empty, you have to look at it half full:
...at least we get 12 versions of the American Pie films!

new tv show coming sometime?

Universal/Sci-Fi plans on making a new tv show possibly to be a back-door pilot for a new show. I haven't heard much about this in a year, so it's fate is unknown, but i think sci-fi and universal are commited to doing something QL.
Some ok resources for QL is at the official site on scifi.com/quantum and a site called quantumleaping.com.

I have the pilot on dvd and all the videos(only about 7 episodes available), but i also have them all recorded to vcr tape in LP(i wish it were done in SP on my Super VHS) mode. If they don't do something soon, I'll have to make my own dvds from my old tapes. Of course they would suck, but I'd have something at least.

It's the only show I ever attempted and succeeded to record all 90+ episodes. The show is simply the most fun I've ever had with a series on tv.

If you haven't already, go sign some petitions to bring it back, and get it released on dvd.

C'mon, bring back the leap!

To keep on topic. This is TV DVD Set that I am most looking forward to. I was so excited when they announced it last year, but haven't seen anything yet.

As for movielib's comment - I think they resolved that because he leapt into an ancestor (the civil war episode). Or was there another episode that he did that?

Yes, they did that in the Civil War episode. It kind of seemed like cheating but it was an outstanding episode so I forgave them. But leaping him into Archer was beyond the pale, especially without Al.

Watch for Archer to say "Oh, Boy.. " as the last words he'll say in the last episode of Enterprise. BTW, the guy who's talking to him and to the Pseudobaun from the future is really "AL".

I think the main reason why Quantum Leap hasn't been released onto DVD is because they don't want people to typecast him as being from that show when the current acting career he's having may flop.

Youd think with him on Enterprise, the "suits" would think the Quantum Leap series would sell.

Maybe with the recent NBC/Universal merger somebody competent will take over their dvd distribution dept and start releasing those back logs of tv shows
